How do you time RCV 120 anyways? I need to change bearings in the engine and the timing description that comes with the engine unfortunately does not offer any help.
Is there any publication or service manual for RCV engines like Saito or OS out there?
I do the maintanance on all my Saito and OS 4 strokes and I have all their recommended "special tools" in their service manuals to take the entire engine apart and put it back.
So far I couldn't find anything for RCV. The manufacturer should provide a detailed service manual with all the necessary special tools (just like OS and Saito) to service these magnificant engines.
I do not want to send the engine to the manufacturer every time it needs bearings.

Hi

I am sorry that you are having problems with timing your RCV120SP.
Rather than offering a separate maintenance manual, RCV have a comprehensive user manual which is provided with every engine.
We include in this manual a whole section on re-timing which includes a diagram and the tools needed. I am assuming that you do not have a copy of this manual. If you would like a copy of our latest user guide, you can either download this from http://www.rcvengines.com/downloads.htm or alternatively email laurenne@rcvengines.com and I will email you a user guide by return.
If you do already have a copy of the manual, if you could let us know what part of the timing instructions is not adequate we will be happy to assist.

I hope this helps, please let us know if you have any more queries,

Regards
Laurenne

This is the same thing that came with the engine. It offers no but a little help. One needs illustrations, detailed step by step instructions to disassemble/assembly an engine. Please refer how Saito or OS handles that.
One little tip can be obtained from RCM when Mr. Lee inspected an RCV 90SP (however, there is no timing instructions there either) and wrote up an excellent review.

Unfortunately we do not have anything like that available. The information in the user guide is related to changing the configuration between the crank and cylinder housing.

Due to the design of the engine and its 2:1 reduction gearing, we do not recommend dissasembling the crankshaft housing as this can change the gear tolerances. The gear mesh may therefore need to be reset by adding / removing shims.

If you need further instruction, I would recommend you contact by phone our US service center. Please call Otto on 630-321-0580

I hope this helps.
Regards
Laurenne
