Just got my new G4 and was excited to run the sim but the program won't launch, says vid card does not meet min requirements. I believe it is an Invideo 5.10 that came with the system. I'd like to upgrade the card but am lost as to which one I need. I'm not a "gamer" so the current card meets all my other needs. I'm running a 2.6Ghz with 512MB ram and XP. Will consider upgrading the ram as well if needed. Suggestions? Thanks.

Might help you add 512 mb more ram to your system. There not too pricey. As far as the video card.I was using the video card that came with my system and G4 worked ok. But last weekend I went out to best Buy and picked up a Ge Force 8600 Gt and its more than enough. Wasnt cheap ,about 179.00. I'm sure a Ge Force 7600 would work great also.

i used to game but here is the deal you will have to know your pc pretty well for assistance here, if not you will have to take it to someone to look at it. your pc you say has a invideo. i am not sure i have heard of that. Nvidia is a company that makes chipsets for video cards and video cards. do you know how much memory is on the video card you have? do you know what ports you have for a video card? ie AGP PCI or PCI express? another thing is ram only helps for so much before it becomes too much and it actually will slow your system down. how much onboard cache does your cpu have? its probably a good idea to upgrade ram a bit anyhow. knowing your front side bus speed will help in picking the right ram for your pc. Its kind of more difficult to recommend an upgrade without knowing some basic facts about your pc. also i recommend not going to best buy. I like www.newegg.com for all my components. for instance sewerdude has a 8600 gt that he paid 180 for and this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814145146 is the same card for 70.

run down on Parts for PC terms

cpu processor;
cache is like memory onboard cpu for duplicated tasks.
front side bus is the main highway between ram and cpu
a. its speed determines what ram you will need
if you buy ram that has a lower front side bus than
what you have it becomes a bottleneck and slows your pc but if you
buy more speed than the front side bus you are paying more than what you need.
motherboard;
card port
a. pci is the main standard and you already have these ports.
not many video cards left on this type of port( will be white on most boards)
b. agp old standard to which video cards were using. not used for anything else (brown shorter that pci a bit)
c. pci express is the new video card port standard but also is replacing pci on other cards as well eventually.
(is white but a bit longer than pci)

he he Yeah i know what you mean. I am disgruntled when it comes to best buy gouging like they do. especially on cables. no reason a usb cable should cost what they charge or firewire etc.

Wow. Thanks guys! I've learned a bit more about it since my first post. The GE Force 8600 looks out of the question since I've got an AGP port. When I log off in a minute, I'll be down for a while as I plan to clean out the dust from my CPU and buy/install a new card tomorrow. Thanks again and I'll let you know how it goes.

newegg has some agp cards
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121064R but they are more expensive due to the demand and how many they are making now.

Well, I ended up buying a Visiontech Radeon HD 2400 Pro 512 mb card. It took some tinkering to get my system back up and running but now everything works again INCLUDING MY G4! Woohoo! I'm $100 broker but much happier now. Thanks for the help, guys.
