ORIGINAL: 2fast Looks as if someone has figured out a way to make this engine idle. Please tell us the secret to leaning the low end for a decent idle. Well... the main needle is about 2 1/2 turns out and the idle mixture was turned in almost a whole turn from factory settings. Like I said, I didn't really spend a whole lot of time with it, so it could probably even be improved upon. I always check the idle mixture with the "pinch test", e.g. pinch the fuel line at idle and see if it speeds up, gradually slows down, or dies right away. If it speeds up, the idle mixture is a bit rich, of it dies right away, it's lean, if it gradually slows to a stop, it's about right. This technique works on everything from a Norvel .049, all the way up to the big gassers... Of course with the two needle or airbleed RC carbs, you need to set the high speed needle fairly close to running position first... Jeffie's no stranger to engines, so I'm certain he's tried everything under the sun to get a decent idle / transition. Maybe I just got lucky with a decent runner right out of the box? (I'll tell ya what, Jeffie ain't kiddin' - this is a powerhouse of a .46!) If it runs as good in the air as it does on the bench, I'll be very pleased.
