Hey everyone, I'm very new to the onroad scene and I just picked up a 12L4 pan car in a trade which I've been dying for, for awhile now.

I'm not looking to go into racing, more like making this thing go really fast. Seems like pan cars are a dying breed, but maybe someone can help me out anyway.

-What motor can size can I fit into this thing? I want to go brushless so I was just wondering. Looks like i can stuff a mamba sized motor in there.

-I have a newly paved street right infront of my house so will the foams have any problem hooking up?

-The car itself needs a little TLC so can anyone point me in the direction of a website that has parts for this thing? I need steering links and a servo mount mostly.

Thanks in advance, but if this doesn't work out, I'm getting an mi3!

- Yes brushless motors will fit it though you will want to measure the motor and your motor pod just to be sure the one you're looking to buy will drop right in. Regardless of which one you buy you'll likely have to disassemble the motor pod slightly to get it in.

- Yes you'll have tons of problems, especially with a brushless setup. These cars were designed for carpet racing and prepped asphalt race tracks. I've got one and even with a 27t motor it is impossible to get it to hook up.

- Tower Hobbies sells replacements for this car. If you don't find it you can always call them and they'll look up the part for you.

I've got a 12l4, a bushless will fit just fine, as far as the foams hooking up on asphalt they will hook up just fine, just pick up a soft set. I recommend BSR tires.

Ok thanks guys. It's really my summer project but I'm looking to pick up as much info as I can before I set out buying parts for it.

Also, I did some more research and as it turns out the guy actually traded me a 10L3O...

Same basic idea I suppose and the parts are interchangable, but how does the performance of the 1/10 compare to 1/12 stability-wise? Will traction be as much of a problem? Thanks again.

LOL, same thing happened to me, sort of. I was told I was getting an RC12L4 and I got an L3 instead. Some people are very dishonest.

Overall they handle very similarly though the 1/12th scale may be a little more of a handful because of it's shorter wheelbase and lower weight.

BTW Racerj3 is right, if you get tires soft enough traction won't be a problem. However you trade one for the other. You'll get traction but little tire life. If you go with harder tires its the opposite, long life, no traction.

A 1/10th scale will be alot more stable in general driving, BUT your getting a car meant for oval - as in turning left so actual handling may a little weird because the cars is set-up with a left side weight bias.

Haha, thats funny drevil. Yea it's wierd but I guess for what I'm after its no big deal. If I meant to race this thing I would have been furious because I'd be in the wrong class lol.

Anyway, thanks for the info, I'll try the tires I have for now.

As for the uneven weight distribution, I might have to use some stiffer springs on the left side to balance the battery.

I'm trying to pick a body, and as much as I hate it, I'm going to have to order from Tower. They have the most parts for this thing in stock as well as parts for my pede so I have no other choice.

Do you guys think I'll be able to get enough downforce with this body? Might add a wing to the back to help the rear bite down, maybe that will help too.

Thanks again for the help, I'll be making an order so we'll see if I can get this thing running anytime soon. Just need the brushless system now...

Okay, well I ordered all the stuff I needed to get this thing running except a motor and esc.

I think I want to try brushed first in case I don't like the feel of the car, I don't want to drop $250 on a brushless kit to have it go nowhere

Can anyone recommend me a decent brushed esc and/or motor?

I'm going to be running a 32t pinion on a 100t stock spur, with a 2 cell lipo.

Thanks.
