Just got done with some 4#3B brushless tail conversions. The brushless main motor conversions worked fine. I'm just a bit concerned about the heat that the tail motor is generating after 4 to 5 min of continueous flying. We will see how much longer these brushless tail motors from wowhobbies last compaired with the stock motors. I've used the Flea and TheSteve/EbayEsc converters and the TurboAce 2g motor. The Losi motor I tried had some cogging problems... May be I need to program the startup??? Any body got some input for me???

well guys I have a mod for you guys, I know how all of us have to order new main blades, but not anymore. E-flite blade cx2 blades work great on the walkera 4#3b heres a picture, you have to take The walkera blades if you have a spare trace out the blade on a cx2 blade close to the cx2 blades end as shown in the picture, then cut out the traced blade with some scissors. next dremel down the cut out blade untill its the exact shape of the walkera blade. Next drill out the hole in the blade so the screw can fit through the blade into the blade grips. I can go into more detail later but to me these custom made blades are just as good as the walkera blades if not better, tons of lift and control. Heres the picture, the picture shows left to right, Blade cx2 blade with walkera 4#3b blade traced on it, then a walkera 4#3b blade, then finally the cx2 blade trimmed down to a custom made walkera 4#3b blade final product

gustav: how much total did you spend on the parts for the brushless conversion?

helistyle: good job with ghetto-rigging

Helistyle, if I wasn't so lazy, I'd probably give that a shot. Would be nice to have more lift.

Question for those with larger Helis, how much harder/easier is it to fly the next size up? If you can do Figure 8s pretty easy, does this translate easily to a larger size? I was thinking about getting the Walkera Creata, but was thinking if I'm going to take the next step, I REALLY would like to try the Flybarless Gaui 200 v2. That would put me well into the $600 range for the heli and good quality components. Is it worth trying to learn 3D on something this expensive? It would be nice to get the feel of something that's rock solid stable. I keep hearing stories of guys buying a CP pro or what have you, when they really wished they just purchased something of more quality early on. Then I feel that maybe I should just get a 4G3 so I can abuse it without paying a fortune. Of course flight sim time will be in there somewhere. If I went with something like the Creata or Gaui 200V2, I probably wouldn't stock up on parts like I do with my 4#3B, that would be REALLY expensive. Probably just fly my 4#3B until I was back up and running.

Thanks for any input you could give me.

Joi, There are several parts combination that you can use for both main or tail brushless motor conversions. If you use TheSteve/EbayEsc + all the other parts it comes to about $70 USD and if you use the Flea + all the other parts it comes to about $100 USD. If you fly your 4#3b a lot like I do, it'll be worth it because I don't want to keep changing the motors because time is money (for me). But if you only fly your heli occasionally, it might not be worth the money or trouble.

Kronium, the guy flying that Gaui is a pro. He can really do amazing stuff

If you can fly 8's with the little one you should not be afraid of the larger helis. Flying CP is not really that different if you keep it in normal mode (non-3D mode) but I am more afraid to crash them due to the higher head speed. That is why I mainly stick to the 4#3 series. I bought an Exceed Raptor G2 that coudn't even take off at full throttle. Did a brushless conversion but have a hard time with the Walkera TX setting up the throttle and pitch curves. Bought a Esky belt that burned the ESC during 3rd flight. It is pretty hard to set the pitch and throttle without a good TX and I am using the stock. Got a Walkera #52 and that was a lot of fun but the set-up was horrible from the factory and it has too lille power (again bad main and tail motor). It is too big for my living room but great out doors and I am not afraid to crash it. If you have the time and money, go for the good stuff and buy a kit or stay with the smaller helis that actually fly quite OK out of the box with close to zero maintenance. I was actually looking at the Gaui 200 on the net but dropped it since it does not fly out of the box. Now that I have realized that a good computer TX is required I am considering it again. Looks like it has a good (small) size and a good quality.

Btw, the bigger helis are more stable but not rock solid in hover. Good pilots make them appear stable just like you probably already do with your 4#3. You will probably already be able to fly a bigger heli but it takes a little time to get use to the way a new bigger heli reacts. So, go for it

/Hans.

the angle of the blades is almost exact of the walkera 4#3b blades, I was actually testing them out today, they make the helicopter have slower throttle up, still can use them though lol

Thanks Gustav, sounds like i'll stick with stock motors because i don't fly it THAT much to justify the price. Maybe some time in the future.

Hans, i'm not surprised about the Belt CP ESC. that 3800kv motor is great, i have it on my HBK and the 25A ESC. they both work great for the HBK, but for the Belt they're not enough and overheating is something that many ppl experienced.

for a bigger heli (2x the size of 4#3B), i highly recommend the Esky Honey Bee King V2 and if you can find it, V3 (just came out). its compatible with several other heli parts and has great upgrade paths. if you get the version 2, you'll replace stock with brushless and possibly replace the gyro with heading hold version soon, as well. so it helps to just get the version 3 because it already has all the upgrades. also, u can get each version in 2.4Ghz.
bigger helis will react less to wind when flying outside and they're not as quick to react to fast inputs, so it's easier to keep them in one place.

Thanks for the input on the larger helis guys! I think I'm going with the Gaui 200FES, even though I just realized that a complete nice setup will cost me $700! The 4#3B will always be my first love , and will continue to get the most stick time.

Question, should I start learning to fly with my fingers as well as thumbs? Seems like most pros use a lanyard and fly with fingers. However, that Tareq guy gives me hope that maybe I can stick with what I'm doing, Xbox style!

http://hk.youtube.com/watch?v=0FWWY5kLF6c&feature=related

by the way, what kind of move is that 46 seconds into the video?

Just got my 4-3b today and after charging battery, checking swash for level and everything tight gave some throttle and she climbed straight up waiting for my next command. This little guy is a real piece of work and a joy to play with the only problem is the tail shaft pin that the rotor and gear slide onto is not all that great and i kept loosing the blade so i got a small paper clip put a ball of solder on the end and slid the gear and blade on to it then put a small drop of candle wax on blade and shaft and she seems to be holding quite well.

Kronium, that's kinda pricey. you can get a nitro with a .30 engine and all the electronics and gear for about $800.
also, check out Dragonus 2, it's a very nice heli with great flexibility in adjusting the head for various levels of stability/performance.

I just ordered the same set as you recommended. I guess I got a little carried away when I saw they had the 4#3B for only $99, so it got a little more expensive then expected.

Man, I'll tell you what - This little chopper is a real blast to play with!

I went ahead and bought one about 2 weeks ago from Helipal, shipping only took 5 days from Hong Kong to Colorado! To say the least, I am MORE than happy with the purchase from them...

I had been flying my Falcon 40 around the house but kept breaking parts due to not having enough space to really fly it around... so I was actually REALLY frustrated with heli's. I was pleasantly surprised when I took the 4#3B out of the box and got it in the air with ease... It handles exactly like my bigger bird, and manuvers around the living room/lobby @ work on breaks - like a CHAMP!

I was looking around for a parts dealer that is state-side but it seems like most are over seas... I finally found a guy on eBay (Micro Flyers) that is in San Diego I believe, that has good prices and standard flat-rate shipping of $5 no matter how much you order from him. I already had to order a bunch of stuff due to my "learning curve" <- (sounds better than crashes! LoL).

So far I have broken:
1. Main rotor blade - believe it or not, I scotch taped it back together and you can't even tell It was broken!
2. Canopy - I heard thins thing was brittle but JEEEEEEZ! This happend out of my own stupidity... not even from a crash! Oh, I also scotch taped this back together as well - works like a charm!
3. The plastic tip of the right skid.
4. The tail motor housing... this again was my own stupidity - not from a crash!

Sorry for the long winded post here guys, I just wanted to tell SOMEONE how much fun I'm having w/ this little guy - cause my wife could care less! LoL

Welcome to the club. It is really amazing how it flies. I always love to hear about breaking parts and crashes, because it means that it is getting used and that there is a good learning curve. It will take a lot of beating and I can see on your 1-4 that you are having a lot of fun. I am getting quite good at crashing and do it a lot. Havn't broken any part the last month and that is with 2-3 crashes per day And it doesn't break anything I crash into. Did a beautiful one directly in to my LCD TV screen and not a scratch on the heli or the TV. The motors go quickly so get a bunch of them!

Rotorfeaver is good but they are a little slow with shipping for the moment. I used them a couple of times and got exactly what I ordered. Their prices are good and they threw in a lipo with my last order since it was a little delayed. I use them when I order a lot of parts that I don't urgently need. Have placed an order for brushless upgrade from wowhobbies last weekend. Have not received it yet so I don't know how good they are. The fastest shipment I have ever had was two 4#3B plus parts from Hobby-Wing in Hong Kong and it only took 3 days to arrive. That was expensive in shipping but it still beats waiting for something you really need. Unfortunatly they stuffed one of the 4#3B boxes with the parts and broke the plastic part of the swashplate and a servo.

/Hans.

I can vouch for wowhobbies. Ordered from them twice. Both times shipped on Monday and arrived Thursday. They're in CA; I'm in GA so I knew it wouldn't be instantaneous. No complaints.

Helistyle, I feel your pain having to wait for parts. It's so hard to see it laying there inoperable. Anyway, the last time I ordered from Chinese Jade, it took almost a week and a half. Customs may have something to do with it.

I finally decided to try the MIA flex frame after breaking the stock frame and boom. Talk about a challenging project gluing everything together. Had to tweak a few things, but turned out pretty nice with the carbon canopy. It's much more stable now flying, but is about an inch longer with the heavy duty boom. One big draw back is the kit is mainly geared for direct drive, so going this route, the stock tail motor gets really hot. Broke down and finally ordered the flea and brushless tail motor from wowhobbies because I know the stock tail motors won't last long.
