I have a bird of time that I would love to power up , preferably on a budget, I am positive I can scratch out the pod..if none are available..but I have some questions. I am not sure what size motor and speed control I would need, I have quite a few 3 cell 11.1 lipo's I can use in a series for power. But quite franky I don't even have a clue as to the correct size motor, folding prop or speed control. It would be nice if one of the chinese sites sold a package that would work. ..Any ideas out there? I am not interested in going straight up to altitude, a couple nice leisurely climbs would be enough fun for me ! Thanks for any help..this Bird Of Time has set to long !

I just noticed the BOT with the electric motor in the nose of the fuselage setup...maybe that would be a better way to go......

There is a power pod sold by Great Planes. It comes with a Thrustmaster brushed motor and a non-folding prop but you can order the prop apart, it only costs about three dollars. An 8-16 amp ESC would be perfect, but watch out if it is Lipo compatible. It is sold on Towerhobbies (just search under power pod).

The fuselage setup would be great. Nw that I think about it, I don“t think the Thrustmaster would be sufficient to lift the BOT. Use a brushless outrunner motor for extra torque if you will use the BOT for thremalling and an inrunner brushless for competition flying.

The limiting factor on a power pod is the clearence. It limits teh prop size. Putting the motor in the nose gives you

* A lighter model - the motor replaces balance weight the pod adds weight.
* a cleaner model - the power pod adds a lot of drag
* Freedome top use a large prop
* a better handling model - the high position of the power pod is not be best location for weight.

Power pod are an old approach. Motor in the nose is much better. And with today's powerful electric motors and light lipo batteries, teh weight of the plane can be almost the same as a pure glider with only a mild penalty for the folding prop.
