I am planning on installing a AXI 2820/10 Ep motor in a sailplane. The article I read called for a Jeti 40 amp advanced plus. When I went to order the controller, I discovered there's 2 different 40 amp controllers. Don't you just hate that kind of C$#%! I guess one of them is a standard type and the other is a "Opto" with a differnt battery rating and wasn't a "BEC"??? If somone can give me some info on this, that will help greatly! I don't want to order it until I got a better understanding of these controllers. I couldn't find much info on these controllers. Thanks...

The Jeti Advance PLUS 40 controller (ESC) has a rating of 40A. You can use this controller to divert power from the motor battery for your servos/receiver (not more than 3-5 servos, depending on your battery cell count). You can only use up to 3 lipo cells with that ESC.
The Jeti Advance PLUS 40 Opto controller has also a rating of 40A. However, you cannot use the controller to divert power from the motor battery to power your servos. You need an extra battery pack. The Opto controller can handle up to 6 lipo cells.
That means, if you use a 3-cell lipo for your motor, you can only power 3 servos with the Jeti Advance PLUS 40. You can power 4 micro servos with it, but you need to make sure the controller gets lots of cooling. You would still push the controller to its limit.
Any controller brand can only handle about this number of servos with an extra battery. So that is not specific to just Jeti ESC's...

Let me know if you want to purchase a Jeti controller. I might be able to offer you a better deal.

Thanks for the info. I will be using a AXI 2820/10 in a Skybench Big Bird XL Sailplane. It has 110" wing span and dry weight about 48 oz. I'm just beginning to learn about the Electric setups. I have read that it's better to have one battery for your rx and serevos and one for the motor. If you can give me some ideas on the best setup to go with, that would help a whole bunch! If this is a good way to go, then would the Opto be the best way to go? Let me know...Thanks
