MY next project will be a Guppy sailplane, and I would like to include flaps and or spoilers to make it a RES plane. What I am thinking is to put an extra micro servo in the wing and to rig is so that when I move the throttle back from the center position, the flaps will go down. I am also thinking about rigging it so that if I move the throttle back the flaps go down and if I move it forward, the flaps go up and act as spoilers/brakes. The plan does not include instructions for flaps or spoilers so this is a Mod I would like to make. How would I rig the servo to move the flaps both up and down? Would I need only one servo or two? And, would a small Hitec micro servo (the little blue economy one) withstand the strain?

I am posting the plans,a photo of the servo I will use, and a photo of the Guppy. I want to build the pure glider version, which appears in the photo as the uncovered one.

Any info will be accepted and I would be immensely grateful if anyone could give me some instructions on how to make my (future) Guppy have both flaps and spoilers acting on the same surface on the same channel.

BTW, I have nearly finished covering my Ferox. Will be posting pics shortly.

having no experience wih the plane i would not know the correct way but i find 20% from the trailing edge and then cut from there off your wing and then use that for your flap and i can't say this enough that your flaf hinge system has to be as aerodynamicly flowing as possibe because it is not a big model and little imperfections MAKE a BIG difference so get that right and your going to have a super sail but make sure it does not go past the polyheadral and remember there is a HUGE DIFFERENCE in putting spoilerons on a glider to increase drag but i found that if you have too much spoiler it will SLAUGHTER YOUR LIFT!! so plan well.

Good luck dude

With a small glider like this you will be adding weight with both flaps or spoilers. Traditionally RES birds just have the spoilers to assist with slowing things down and mixing your up elevator when you deploy the spoilers counters the dive in the plane when only using spoilers.

I use a 3 stage switch, 0 = no spoiler, 1 = half spoiler with small amount of elevator, 2 = 90 degree spoiler and enough ele to counter act it.
