I'm looking at Vegas 8 and was wondering how many of you use these kinds of programs or just stick to basic (ie movie maker)

you can dumb gobs of money into programs like Avid, Final Cut Pro (not trying to start a war here), and they are great and all, but if your a youtube poster or what not, i don't see the need for them, i make all my vids in windows movie maker and they turn out just fine, plus you don't have to worry about the whole liability..... with those big name programs, and movie maker is sooo ez to use (unlike avid, used it before, can be a nightmeare, commands change year to year... pesky stuff), thats just my opinion, if you can download a trial version or somethin, do so and get a feel for it, if you like it, get it, but if you don't, stick with what works

I didn't think movie maker could do that, but then I saw that its alot of pictures.

I never learned how to use the "green screen" in PS.

I use movie maker for all mine, because I don't want to spend $1,000+ on another program I don't fully know how to use.

How much money do you have in software? $5,000 - $6,000?

I downloaded a trial version of vegas 8 pro cuz they don't have one of just vegas 8 but so far I know how to do some basic stuff but over time you learn how to do more creative stuff as well on it and I really like it allot

plus when I use movie maker It freezes allot, or doe sent do something right. like I made a video and like the first few seconds of it worked but then it was just blank screen with the music playing and thats it and then the credits work

plus at the store its $90 but I can get it from ebay for $50

Hehehe. I get it from my school. They get licenses from the companies and give it out to the kids who takes the classes. I also have Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 for programming.

I think you should "find" them on the internet, then use them and decide which one you prefer the most, then purchase it. I see no bad coming from downloading things off torrents etc... as long as you buy the software if you decide to use it further than just testing.

IT also depends on what you want to use it for, youre budget etc.. etc...

if movie maker locks up for a sec, try saving it, that works all the time with me, what it is probablay doing is hunting for the information on the computer and then it can't find it, plus if it crashes, it saves it for you

What do you mean? You take the USB/Firewire cord plug it in, If iPhoto does not show up go to the applications folder and click Image capture (used that because you did)
Anyways back on topic, I use Final Cut Express, iMovie 08' and, iMovie 06' HD. I love FCE its easy to use and great to work with. iMovie is 10x better than Movie maker but there is no need for the war, I have my views and you do to. Just throwing my thoughts out there.

Lucky. I'm home schooled so I don't get any of that, but we do get the software at a discount.

My movie make sucks...

makeing videos and it is really slow at previewing it, when its playing its just kind of ticking along and not really working

but when I save video its fine

and I also looked it up and got 2.6 which in the preview the video looks really bad for some reason
