Test flew my ME2 this weekend. http://www.ulmer-rc.com/dotnetnuke/Default.aspx?tabid=97

I went with an AON 12mm brushless with 3x3 prop
TowerPro servos
Berg Rx
Castle Creations 9amp ESC

I flew it with both 2 and 3 cell lipos... both flew it nice. 3 cell being much quicker, but I was affraid to go much more than a few seconds of full power with the 3x3 prop. I did not want to burn out the motor on its second flight. A 3x2 should keep the amps in check. Also the AON only weighs .5oz so some nose weight was needed. Still fine tuning the balance... I think it will be 6.5 oz when I'm done.

Thanks Patrick for designing and putting up the plans on your sight. I had to make the front former different to fit the battery, and same with the rear so the aileron linkage would not hit it. Also left off the wing tips and foo foo on the control surfaces. Just to keep it simple... It does fly nice!

Nicely done! What is the performance like? 3x3 sounds like a speed prop......IIRC that is what was on the "adrenaline rush"?

I think the performance is much better than the J250 stuff we were doing... faster, lighter, and longer run times on the same batteries... that's the beauty of brushless. Its my understanding that the 3x3 should really only be used on two cell lipo and the 3x2 should be used with three cell... but the top speeds are comparable.

http://www.stevensaero.com/StevensAero-Adrenaline-Rush-Electric-RC-Airplane-Micro-Pylon-Hotliner-SA-SKIT-MINIHL-p-16631.html They claim 65mph from my motor with the 3x2 prop. I would guess a bit slower than that with the ME2's lack of aerodynamics, but still moved out pretty good for such a small plane.

Yaah, all the J250 proved was that you could fly RC with a 98 cent motor. Watching the speed drop off to 75% power only 30 seconds into the run made racing that stuff BORING. If the speed can stay consistant for 2 minutes, then you can have an exciting 10 lap heat, especially in the real world when a slight breeze shows up. It sounds like you have enough power there to tow a Blink around pretty well.

one thing you could try on that plane is the E-flight park 180 motor. i used to have a 12mm in my small nemisis but when i switched i picked up about 15-20mph with it. its a 2200kv motor and can run on three cells. i use a evo lite 3s1p 350 on it with a gws 4.5x4 prop. you couls use the 4x4 or the 4.5x3 and have a much improved climb with the same speed and would be about an ounce lighter.

That E-flight 180 is a tiny outrunner right?

Well... I continued my work with balancing the thing out. Ended up adding 1.5oz to the nose to get it at 25%. I can't believe I was flying it that tail heavy. No wonder stalls were more like a scarry floundering around. So adding 25% more weight brought the wing loading way up. It still flys but not nearly as well. Not sure were to go from here....
A heavier motor and battery that would balance it out without adding lead. Then it would be more of a racer than a park flyer... I was hoping for a laid back park flyer.

You could try moving the wing instead?
There is often a bit of wiggle room there, depending on how the rods for the rubber bands are positioned of coarse.

I wonder if that 12mm motor is what they use in those depron foamies?

Mr. Cox- Moving the wing would be a good approach but the wing is symmetrical so the saddle pretty much is what it is without rebuilding the fuse.

CP- I'm sure there are lots of depron designs that would work well with this motor. You got me thinking about this plane I made a few yrs ago.(man time flys!)

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/My_first_Depron_plane/m_2985797/tm.htm

The plane is long gone from my hanger so I'm glad I made a post with specs. It weighs much less than the ME2...

Work is slow today. Maybe I'll swing by the LHS and see if they have any depron.

oh- I just had a thought... maybe I could just replace the tail features on the ME2 with depron. That might help with the tailheaviness.

1/3 oz in the tail is worth an oz in the nose. Recutting your saddles wouldn't be like brain surgery though......ahh just go with a bigger motor and turn that sucker into a little 3D monster.

Whats the wingspan? There are no measurements on PT site...

Can you shim your motor out a little bit with some light ply or plastic washers? I would think that Depron would be too wiggly for the tail...

chevy- the wingspan on mine came out to 20 and 3/4 inches and the cord is 5 and 3/4 inches. I think with the wing tips it would have been close to 22".
