Daven,

Pretty much depends on what you want to do with it... As there never was an OS LA 20, I presume yours is an FP? When they were mainstream production first item, prices around that were typical.

In the world of CL Stunt, a few highly prized individuals consider the FP20 to be a minor miracle! Turnkey! Very little break-in fuss. Plenty of power on a 9-4 APC, under all stresses of flight (and CL stunt loads MUCH more than 3D RC!)

Formula: Stock OEM muffler, muffler pressure, 9-4 APC, 10%nitro, 11%-11% synth-castor fuel. Wind it up until it JUST doesn't sag in high-g-load maneuvers.

Translate to RC? Out of the box, after the mfr's described break-in, with the above "formula" - get a WOT setting to match, then find your low/idle needle setting. Then go have a ball!

BTW, the OS 25LA seems able to do about the same... Under the same formula...

They were good engines in there day but for $75 you can do better.

An ASP 21 will eat it for breakfast cost less than $75 and there are spares off the shelf.

Seeing as parts for the FP are discontinued I wouldn't pay more than $35-$40. However an .25LA liner will fit in a .25 FP, I had to find out that the hard way. And the cranks are the same. But I can only speak of the .25 size.

I would spend the 75 on an o.s. 25 fx, ball bearing and a great engine, you can get those brand new for that, why get an old engine, parts are hard to come by

I would have to agree. Tower has them listed for $80.00. Since most other plain bearing engines in that size are only about $15.00 cheaper it seems like a bargain.

I can't help but wonder if it might not be an even older OS 20 R/C. It and the FP are good engines, but just nothing like the modern designed .20 you can bring home for that $75.

I was thinking the same thing. This is the model that preceded the FP line. I got this one at a swap meet NIB for $25. I would never pay $75 for one.

The FP is really only a better LA engine. The FP has 3 intake ports instead of only 2 and the FP has niceties like more cylinder head bolts (hex head not cheap Phillips head) and the backplate is also aluminum instead of cheap plastic. The crankshaft is the same so timing is not an issue. And I believe the carbs are similar. The relative benefits of these differences may be debateable but I sold my .46 LA because it was the weakest .46 size engine in my airdrome.

Rainy what is with you and those old loop scavenged engines?

Yep, I'm rather hopeless in that respect too. I have 5 of the OS Max 20 loop scavanged engines (I did have six but sold one in a weak moment ), plus 1 x OS Max 25 & 4 x OS Max 40's. I dunno, but maybe it's the design, or perhaps the wonderful castor smell that fills the air when you are running on of them. It's also a nostalga thing too

I'm just giving Rainy a hard time, he knows I have one Thunder Tiger .15 loop and 3 Fox 15 loopies all R/C. I need mufflers for the Foxes to be able to use them . I am adapting one soon. But the Tiger is ready to rock and turns a Master Airscrew 8X4 to about 15,000.
If you want to buy one of the Fox 15s I am having a weak week.
