I have a tower hobbies Nicd charger with a built in discharge mode on it. Can I discharge my NIMH batteries on this charger as well as my Nicd batteries ?? I currently use a mrc superbrain 960 to charge my nicd batts but am getting 2 new Nimh batts tommorow and wandering about discharging them as to cycling them.. thanks..

Your discharger should be able to discharge the nimh pack too (as long as all the "other" rules are followed)

I'm thinking of things such as making sure the cut-off,voltage, current, ect is within specs.

I know nothing of the specs for the cut-off,voltage, current, ect ... its a cheap tower hobbies 420 model I think charger with a ammeter on it and a switch with charge and discharge on it..as for my superbrain I let it do its thing with the preset settings...im not very educated on the batteries part except dont charge nicd's on a nimh charger and vise versa and that when they get hot let em cool off ..bout far as my knowledge goes in this area.. thanks..

Probably...but the Tower discription doesn't mention if it discharges at 5A or something less. Also it doesn't state what the cutoff voltage is, so you would need to somehow monitor pack voltage during discharge so you can stop it before voltage drops so low that the battery pack gets ruined. Smart dischargers allow you to set the voltage cuttof...commonly recommended at .9 V per cell (so that's 5.4V for a 6 cell pack).

the 420 will discharge any battery ( I think you have standard 1/10 scale subC packs) within it's voltage spec and won't know the difference between a nicad or nimh battery. It is not recmmended to discharge packs.

ok first question where can I find info on charging and discharging my batteries.. I thought I read somewhere that the nicd's required cycling (discharging and charging every so often) and the NIMH batts are new ball game to me.. dont know about the cycling of them.. the batts I own are tower hobbies brand 1500mah nicd's and the NIMH batts are 2000 mah prianha's..I assume these are Sub C packs that was mentioned in previous post.. thanks everyone for the info on this matter... greatly appreciated..

Here's a couple of good links that may apply.

http://members.aol.com/davthacker/nimhfaq.htm#Your%20New%20Battery
http://www.rcbatteryclinic.com/

Many of the major batt manufactureres have faqs also , Check Sanyo, rayovak, energizer, duracell.

Nimh batts rarley need cycled and nicads need very little cycling. The way we use batts in electric cars/trucks for power gets them cycled during normal use far more than is nessecary.

If you can't find the specs for the charger, use it anyway. Just keep tabs on the charge process and feel it with your hand every few minutes. When it starts to feel a bit warm, they're done. Tex.

Has anyone heard of certain battery packs not being compatible with digital servos. I am putting HT Digital servos in my YAK 120, and i don't want to have a conflict between my 2500 NiMH and my digital servos.
