They were plastic cased cheapo versions of earlier Krafts. They were not well received at the time, but they did have some models with alot of cool features like servo reversing and dual rates. They were actually ahead of their time, as Futaba and Airtricks eventually packaged their low- line radios like the Attack, Conquest, and Vanguard series in plastic too. I think if they had just used a nicer label on the transmitter, instead of the stylized "K", like the original logo, it would have helped. When Carlisle took over and changed the logo, it was not well received by alot of old Kraft users.

Another thing was Krafts had a reputation at the local flying fields here in Southern California for shooting down other airplanes. This was because the 1st Kraft FM systems had a relatively higher power output, and additionally alot of guys found they could use 8 dry cells instead of 8 nicads, this gave 12 volts to the output stage instead of 9.6 volts, and more power. Unfortunately, it also made the transmitter "splatter" meaning it put out a broader wideband signal which would interfere with other channels. At Mile Square, and Sepulveda I got hit all the time by Krafts, it would make my throttle glitch low then high, and return to normal. The Channel-Master Tx. module was really notoriouse for causing problems too...so much so that I did not fly whenever somebody had a Kraft with one turned on. They earned the notoriouse moniker of "Crash-Master"!

Was the K line rebadged from something else? I have a bunch of Kraft stuff as I collect it and remember when the K came out, but because they had different connectors and such they have never been good to me. I also remember when they started putting out joysticks for computers.

We called them "Dial-A-Crash". It was a nice idea but too early for its time. A shame as synthesized and 2.4gig is now the norm, not the exception. They go for sky high prices on Fleecebay but IMO, not worth the expense. I'm happy with my changeable modules.

Most of the problems I have heard from the channel master was people switching channels while on, shooting down someone as they pass through their channel or changing the freq and forget to change the pin they held.
