Hello, i have a new K&B .45 sportster, the crank end play seems very excessive for a new engine, i never had this kind of engine and wanted to know if this is normal before i start it, thanks.....

That is a "plain bearing" type engine, it is normal for the crankshaft to float back and forth in the crankcase like that. Use a fuel with lots of castor lube for that type of engine and it will last a long time.

As long as the crank pin is not hitting the backplate or the connecting rod is being put in a bind you should not have a problem , even then only while starting with an electric starter but according to Mecoa if you disassemble the engine to check any of these problems you will void your warranty. Good Luck.

I have a K&B Sporty I have my hands on right now. I love the way they run and the unique design. PLEASE make certain the top end is cleaned out well . I had a bad experience with a new .28 sporty recently from it sitting too long or something and it ruined the piston. Perhaps the engine had some kind of contamination but I urge you to clean it out somehow and lube it well before you proceed.

Find any issues in there? Wish I had taken off mine. My other 2 sportys run fantastic.

I guess i was lucky i did not find anything, but it does have the tightest piston fit i've ever felt, i might heat it up before i crank it over can't wait to hear it run, i have a half gallon of fuel and i added a couple of ounces of castor to it, i hope i did not over due it is that possible... thanks....

SIG sells up to 25% castor fuels so I think it would be hard to overdo it. Wish I could figure out what really happened to mine. Actually I boxed up the bad parts and sent them to Mecoa for an analysis. I don't expect a warranty and I ordered the parts and paid for them but I am hopeful the will take it into consideration.
