One night I was looking for a new "Sporty Type" plane and while looking through various sites I came across
the Jeff Troy "TameCAT" trainer on the AirBorne Models site and decided it was one of those "gotta have it cause
it's different" kind of airplanes. and the price tag of $109.99 plus shipping made it even more appealing. So out
came the plastic and the order was placed over the air waves. The box arrived in about 7 days, shipped FedEx ground.
Upon opening the box I first inspected all of the parts and found that the forward tank cover/canopy was severely
cracked, a phone call that evening to Steve @ AirBorne Models had a replacement on the way the next day.
Oooppps, it arrived in about 5 days and was crushed beyound recognition by UPS, driver didn't seem to care either.
Another phone call that evening to Steve again had another one on the way next day via FedEx and a claim filed with UPS.

One thing for sure the guys at AirBorne are really tops in "CUSTOMER SERVICE"......... Anyway I started the assembly
this evening and here are some pics to wet your appetite.

After about 1 1/2 hours of work I had all of the control surface hinges super glued
and the wings joined with 30 minute epoxy. The stab & elevator, fin & rudders assembled
all with 30 min epoxy, and setting for the night to cure.

Plan is to have this baby ready to go for it's maiden this Sunday afternoon.

Well it's been a long day but got a lot done one the TameCAT. Ist pic shows the wing sitting in place after
letting epoxy dry overnight. 2nd pic shows aileron servos installed, 4th pic shows tight comaprtment of the
nose gear steering arm ( big hands don't fit too well in there). 3rd pic shows her on all 3. Had a time
getting the nose gear installed as it is a tight space to manuver an allen key to tighten it all up.

The tank assembly was a longer than normal process due to the center screw that tightens
the stopper kept stripping, after serveral tries I changed it out for another M-3 screw that
finally tightenend up. Pic 1 shows the tank mounting method of a rubber band hold-down,
Pic 2 shows the neat bomb that is suspended from the belly, it is held in place by a spring
loaded clip, so that it can be removed if wanted. Was really trying to get her ready for
her maiden tomarrow but time was running out, had to get my other planes ready for the
field.

I saw this plane at the recent AMA Convention and thought too that it was a unique and very good looking model. The price seems quite reasonable. UPS is costing Airborne any profit they may have realized in the beginning. I am reading more and more about model airplanes arriving with all sorts of damage. The Mfg's need to realize that the UPS goons make a sport of destroying packages and they need to pack for "America" as opposed to a civilized country.

What is really neat about this plane is the packaging of all of the accessory packs a number keyed to
the parts layout sheet. Each little bag has it own number on it which coresponds to what it is used for
in the assembly sequence. Upon inspection of the glue joints and fuselage former to sides and
re-enforcements, evrything looks very good but as a precaution I will add a little CA to all of the accessable
joints. I would also recommend that the fuel tank compartment be fuel proofed with clear dope.
All in all I am very impressed so far with this model and look forward to getting it in the air next weekend.

On the UPS comment, AirBorne ships all of their kit orders out via FedEx Ground, just accessories and replacement
parts are shipped UPS. I have had a fare share of Tower Hobbies orders arrive with the box in less than
acceptable condition.

Got the engine mounted this evening. My GMS 47 was putting the supplied engine
mount in a bind as it wasn't wide enough so off to the LHS to get a Great Planes mount,
I chose the 40-70 mount as it was the closest to the hole spacing. I punched out the
factory installed T-nuts and turned a piece of 5/16" birch dowel down to 7/32" which
fit the hole snug and applied thin super glue. Applied the patern to the firewall, drilled
new holes, 3/16" dia. for the 6-32 T-nuts. Made a handy jig to space the engine the
required 4 1/4" from the firewall. Used my centering drill tool, marked the holes, drilled
and then mounted engine.......continued tomarrow evening.

After a long evening the TameCat is ready to fly Saturday weather permitting.
Will post some finished pics later in the morning

A couple of thoughts about the assembly, I should have put the rudder horns on
before I glued them to the top of the Stab, as they were a bear to fiddle around with
trying to get them right. The screws that fasten the nose cone of the spinner to the
back-plate should be replaced, the phillips heads on mine stripped very easily, replaced
with a compareable sized S/S sheet metal screw with an allen head for ease of thightening

Will weigh before heading to field and will hopefully be able to post some video of the maiden.

Just purchased one for my wife as a TRAINER II.
She had another trainer and didn't like the way it looked...
So....................

KEEP UP THE POSTING! I know this will be a great flyer!!

-nemesis4u

Oh btw... yes her canopy was also cracked... waiting on a replacement too! I bought it at a LHS 2nd Chance R/C in Universal City, TX.
When I got home from Universal City/San Antonio TX I unpacked the TAMECAT and found the cracked canopy,..

nemesis4u, I thought that you guys would be at Bomber Field this weekend>>>>>>>>>>

I finished things up late last night, balanced it this morning, it took 2 1/2 oz. of lead in the tail.
could have gone with 3 but want to check out the first flight, I like mine a little on the nose down
attitude. Weighed the plane dry 6 lbs, 4 oz. with the 2 1/2 of lead in the tail.

Here are some pics of the finished plane.
