Status: offline 		Just picked up an Irvine .53 today. Good compression, should be a good engine, however the previous owner said that it refuses to shut down with the carb barrel completely closed off. Must be an air leak somewhere.

I was wondering, will the red finish of the engine stand up to an antifreeze bath? Or will the AF remove it along with the old gunk on the engine?

Status: offline 		Having 6 irvine 53s and all convereted to diesel (davis heads) no issue the jetstream carb is one of the best,, you have 2 sources of air leaks the o ring on the carb needle and the main o ring on the
carb body may be dried out and leaking, replace them and the issue will be solved I use a touch of copperkote sealer on the main o ring just to be safe, you can "crock pot the engine
but this is not the issue it will look nicer but the o rings are the answer, have never had the problem with these engines the carb barrel is a tight perfect fit smooth, and not a leak source martin

Status: online 		From what I hear, the crockpot treatment will strip the red powdercoat right off. Alcohol and a toothbrush might be the best for getting that engine clean.

Yeah, I know the crockpot bath won't help the air leak... I'm just wanting to get it looking like new again.

Thanks for the tip on the carb... I'll change those O rings and see what happens!
