I saw that Sig Mfg. sells this kit at an attractive price. Anyone could tell me something about it? Is it a good plane? I have an old Rossi .40, do you think it would be over sized for that plane?

At 390 square inches, a .40 would make the plane a handful, but not impossible.

Good plane for the Novice pattern.

I had one with an Evolution .36, which is a pretty small crankcase design, and even that was tight. Good luck squeezing that Rossi in there. BTW, the .36 was plenty of power for it. Would have been even faster with a pipe! It is a really nice flying airplane.

It's a great plane. Fairly speedy, so easy to land. Keep-ing it on knife edge keeps my fingers busy. OS32F and MA9x7. I would love to have more power, but I don't want anymore weight.
If you are looking to get into pattern, I think there are better planes. But for having fun, fast flying and smooth groovin are what you want- go for it.

I have had serveral Kobra's over the years and it is a good flying plane. One thing you might want to consider is making it a tail dragger, I always had a problem with the blocks breaking thus allowing the main gear to flop around. I had a King Kobra that I cnverted to a TD and found it had much better ground handling then the tri-gear ones.

As for your engine choice I flew mine with either a OS. 45 FSR or later the .50 FSR. The plane will walk in slower then most think it will.

If you want more power from that engine you need to let it rev up more. A 9x7 is a .40 sized prop. Drop to a 9x5 or 6. If it isn't spinning up near 14k, it isn't "on the ports". A Mousse Can Pipe (MCP) would give you considerable boost in power. All you need to do for the MCP is a header, the mousse can (aerosol can) and some JB Weld. A very broadband/non resonant muffler that provides excellent throttling. A fellow named Bob Adkins did a lot of research work in the MCP area. His comments and construction articles can still be found on Deja News/Google.

Had to jump in-the Kobra is easy to build and lots of fun-I dropped a OS46 AX in with a light Mac pipe and made it a tail dragger. APC 9x7.5 prop to 9x8 works great on 15%. It's not ungodly fast but you can't look away. Performs good manuevers, lands fairly slow for a speedster-Do it!
