Today I took my fine running 8T with my new LRP .28 and Muggy with it's Axial .32 to the track for some fun - both worked fine last week and today they hardly ran at all!!! My 8T took ages to crank up and so did the Muggy and I went through the following:

  • Primed engines
  • Checked Fuel Lines
  • Changes Glow Plugs
  • Changed Glow Starter
  • Checked Throttle & Idle settings
  • Cleaned Air Filters
  • Cleaned out Carb with fuel
  • Checked for pressure leaks on exhaust

Now am I missing something as both car's have the same problem which is bizzare - normal start up is within 3 seconds of starter kicking on and I completely unimpressed with how 2 great running cars can do this?????

    Thanks

might have to do with barometric pressure and humidity levels

both doing the exact same would lead me to beleive that something in your prep is to blame...if they both ran fine last week....then what did u change in between last week and this week. ? something must be a miss.....what was the weather last week for fun compared to this week ?

Did you check the contacts on your glow ignitor? I often find them very dirt, and when I test a glow plug in my hand I am hitting it in a different way where it makes enough contact to glow, but when clicked on, it's siitting right in the middle where all the oil residue is built up. I just bring a cloth and wipe the bottom of my glow ignitor and even wipe the tip of the glow plug, not the side in the engine, but where the glow ignitor makes contact with.

The track temp was a few degrees higher than last week but only by 2 or 3, I tried the cleaning the glow plugs and even installed new ones which made no difference.

When I arrived the 8T fired as it always does (instantly), it cut off half way into it's first tank and that where the problem started with that one. The Muggy just didn't want to fire period! I must be missing something??????

That indicates you were runnign to lean, the engine overheated to the point where the fuel boils rapidly. So then you need to wait for the engine to cool down. I mean clean the glow ignitor more then the glow plug.

The fuel does sound like a possible problem as there was fuel left in the tanks as they were not completely empty. I have just bought a new gallon and will try that today and clean the glow starters.

What fuel do you run? My friend had a tank of 20% trinity in his hyper 7 for atleast 8 months, it fired up on the first try, engine was a big gummy nothing wd40 down the carb couldn't fix and a few seconds of high reving

That is your problem. Nitro fuel absorbs moisture over time. Tanks should be drained or emptied after each use. People expect nitros to run like real cars and they do not. Do not get so easily frustrated but instead ask your tuning buddies for prep and afterrun advice as it seems you are not following the basic how-tos.

I always run Odonnells 20% - I normally go through a gallon within a few weeks as I have 3 cars running on it.

I will always drain the fuel from now on and see what happens.
