                I am impressed with the better look of your P51 with the H9 canopy. I's amazing how such a small change can transform the overall look of the plane. Well done on the weathering and general finish too.

Status: offline 		Is this the new R2 version gs p-51? The older style is the S2, the guy from airbourne models said World Models have updated the P-51. I have ordered one but wont get it till september. I thinking of running a 50cc in mine, I dont think it would be to much weight for the G.S. ? May run the new crrc 50cc...

Status: offline 		I am currently building the new version Double Trouble and have a few questions. What muffler are you guys useing with the Super Tigre 2300, and what spinner? Will the stock spinner hold up @ 9,000+ Rpm. I looked @ the Dave Brown, but the stock cut out is for 26" props. Also are you guys running the stock soft mount, or going with a large mount like the Great planes. I am considering fillings the holes with epoxy and hard wood dowel, and redrilling for the large adjustable GP's mount.

Status: offline 		30cc flies her well at 1/2 throttle, 40cc is overkill on this plane, so 50cc is perfectly called for and makes all the sense for those who can't get enough power~lol! . I hope it holds up to the G's that kinda' power on board will put on the airframe..

Status: offline 		I'm still biulding my WM GS p-51, but I've gone with a DLE 55RA. Also using a Tru Turn 4 blade spinner with a 4 blade prop. I see guys running a g62 in there Top flite 80" P-51, Not sure the size diff. between the two planes, yhe TF P-51 may have a bigger fuse. Have you had any problems with quality with the WM P-51?

Status: offline 		I like the fact that it will be nice flying plane in the end, but am not impressed at all with the quality so far. The top of the engine box was assembled with scraps of plywood since the actual piece was not big enough. The wing has a mushy spot in the sheeting by the wheel well, along with poorly fit figerglass stab tips, and a poor job of assembling the bottom chin scoop. A WM rep stated that the factory said it was not strutural defects. I was a given a $100 cash reimbursement and he called it a scratch in dent sale. Quite a few area's will be redone and reglued. If it was a Great planes or Horizons product I would have returned it. I really want a big Mustang so I will work through the issues and have a nice plane in the end. If I was to order another GS Mustang it would be the TF GS, since it appears to assembled much better. I realize that they are assembled in sweat shops, but come on, don't you check the stuff over before finishing the build. Here are a few pics as it came out of the box. I will add that it was packed excellent, the fact that WM has no quality controll is what bothers me the most. It is not what I expected for $400. My Aeroworks, GP's and Hanger 9 arfs are built much better in my opinion, and the only ARF I have ever had that was worse in initial build quality out of the box was an old Lanier arf. Atleast I only have $299 invested it in now and recieved free shipping and free roll of covering.

You can get a pitts muffler for side mounting the 2300 or you can get an inverted pitts muffler - which way are you thinking of mounting the 2300?

Status: offline 		I was thinking of running the stock muffler with the cylinder at about 7 o clock, or inverted with a wrap around Slimline. I also have a header and cannister, but there is no place to hide it. Muffler pressure will not be an issue since I am running crankcase pressure with a cline regulator and an OS 7d carb, so I want to use the muffler that performs the best. Also, did you ever try the stock spinner, and mount. I am curious if it would hold up. I have been thinking of trying a HYDE mount, and Dave Brown spinner. Tru Turn is just to expensive this time.

Status: offline 		I used one of the great planes plastic engine mounts - I don't recall which one. Never used their mount. I used a Dave Brown spnner. You should test which muffler gives you the best prformance - if you can get the regulator set well you might get the best high end rpm with the wrap around slimline. But you will need to figure out how to reliably start it inverted. I mounted the 2300 I flew this plane with sideways at first (cylinder at 9 0clock). It flew best with a master aircrew 17-8 scimitar prop. Used a fair amount of runway to take off but when airborn the 2300 unloaded and it really accelerated and flew pretty fast, like a WARBIRD . I never used a regulator - I used the wt499 walbro for 1/2 a season (mounted directly on the 2300 in place of the original carb - which was easy to tune and run. I never got around to inverted mounting the 2300 using the wt499 and never thought to open up the pipes on the pitts muffler I was using.

I was thinking of going to inverted mounting with the wt499 and decided to redo the covering from miss america to a standard warbird scheme - I had the decals for Cripes-A-Mighty 3rd so I was going to that scheme. Then we diecided to move here to DFW and I also decided to go to a DLE30 instead of the 2300. So that's where I am now - the 2300 is on the shelf and I'm finally seriously thinking of getting the redone plane operational - just got to get another plane or two done first. I'm going to put together the updated TWM mustang 60 with a DLE20 first . That should be a blazing fast airplane. The updated 60 size has wing fairings like the updated 81 inch TWM mustangs have.

Status: offline 		The engine runs spectacular with the regulater and OS 7D CARB. It will idle at 2,000 and transition with out even a hick up. I have a super tigre .90 running a regulater inverted and it runs awesome too with a Magnum .91 carb. As far as muffler testing goes, I have run one stock muffler, and one stock muffer with a 1/2 pipe tig welded inplace of the stock pipe to free up the exhaust a little. It turns @ 9,200 with a APC 17-8 after 2 gallons of 5% and pulls like a mule. As far as fuel is concerned, I make my own for less than $8 per gallon, since we have methanol at the pump for $2.65 a gallon. There is a race car supply shop 2 miles from my house, and they supply the methanol for the 1/2 mile dirt oval guys. I too have a GP engine mount sitting here but am thnking of running a Merle Hyde pattern engine mount to cut down on vibration. It comes with a GP mount also. The mount will cut actual vibration down 65%. How does the DB spinner look since there site lists the cutout as for huge props.

Status: offline 		The Dave Brown site shows the Big Cut style 5 inch spinner is cut for a 26-10 prop. I don't see where it shows the prop size for a parabolic 5 inch spinner. But if you want for $5 more you can get them to custom cut your spinner for your prop.

My parabolic 5 inch spinner will take up to maybe a 20 inch prop. I have put 18 inch props in it, but 22-10 master aircrew scimitar prop will not go into the prop cutouts on my parabolic 5 inch spinner.

Status: offline 		they show them on different "pages" which to me means the big cut spinners are a different series. Plus the parabolic spinner is the p51 style and the big Cut style is not parabolic from what I see.

I bought my spinner 5+ years ago so they might have made some changes so you could call or email them to confirm.

I ordered it from Airbourne models as a scratch and dent, he took 25% off and free shipping.  The packaging was good on the fuse, but hardware had come loose with the wings and they have alot of dents. My P-51 looks the same, firewall built with scraps. I would have payed the money for the TF or Hangar 9 GS p-51. BEWARE of the retracts. I here that they need to be built up and could rip out if left the way they are out of the box. I have removed them but still trying to come up with a way to reinforce the wing were they bolt in. Wish I could find a set of electric retracts that were the same size. I guess its a good arf for $299, Are all of WM arfs like this? Guess Airbourne Models will have to sell all there planes as scratch and dents!!!

I had a WM kit years ago, and it took alot to make it decent. I figured I would give them another chance so I payed $399 w/free shipping and recieved a $100 refund and a roll of covering on top of that after I raised a holy fit about the overall quality of the arf. I have to say that I hope they are not all like this , but mine supposibly was from the newest shipment that they recieved. I planned on going through the retracts anyway too. I am still gathering all the stuff for the build. I have all the servo's and engine, but am still deciding on a mount and spinner. I will probably get the DB 5" parabolic. I will end up rebuilding half the plane to suit my liking. It will be the last WM arf that I ever purchase. I too wish I would have purchased the TF since that is atleast built with some workmanship. WM's sweat shop labor is not cutting it in my book. I was told that they are payed very poorly and to not expect to much on the phone.

Status: offline 		I have not had the problems you describe with TWM planes. They are arfs and need some fixing but if I never bought any arf that needed fixing I wouldn't buy any arf at all. This applies to Top Flite as well as H9 as well as TWM. My Top Flite 84 inch mustang arf will need to be fixed too when I put it together/rebuild it a bit.

Perhaps you guys should build kits instead of buying arfs. Then you will have the plane you want and you know how it's built. Top flite has some decent kits for their warbirds. I have built a couple of them in tthe past - they have good instructions and their kit quality is pretty good, but they still have some less than perfect parts in their kits.

Status: offline 		Hi Everybody, I am also building this airplane.  I have the Double Trouble finish and it is my first Giant Scale plane and my first Gasser.  I hope to get it finished up in the next couple of months wedging it in between some Sport Quickie 500 planes I need to get finished for next season.  My plane will be built to race in the new RCPRO WM GS P-51 class.  I will be installing an OS33GT engine and will be running a tuned pipe.  My build thread is on another forum but, here is the LINK to it.

And yes I had to plug and redrill the firewall for my standoffs.
