hello

I just got a new mountain bike http://www.diamondback.com/bikes/mtn-full-suspension/recoil-comp-08/ and the suspension is really stiff. Also when on the upward movement of the shock it makes a bottoming and i dont think its supposed to sound like that. Should i go back to the store and ask them or do shocks need to "break-in"?

thanks.

shocks have to be broken in...it comes with the Fox Vanilla rear shock which is an excellent XC shock...and the RS Tora front forks are really good too, just make sure you give them time to break in.

Did you read the manual?

My Giant bicycle came with about 10 different manuals ranging from the front suspension to the rear brakes and everything in between.

just keep riding it around when i got my rockshocks SID world cup fork it was mad stiff, i kept riding it around on the road doing bunny hops and it loosened up a bit. and put your front break on and move the bike back and forth if it does a couple mm's or cm's tighten you headset and stem. I think that the bottoming out noise you are hearing.

Just wait for the shock to break in a little. The Fox Vanilla R is a good shock and if it is still too stiff after a while you will be able to adjust it. Same for the fork.
