Can anyone give me a hand here. I just purchased this plane at an estate auction. It has a 39.5" wingspan and a 31.5" length. It weighs around a pound as it sits right now. I was told it started life as an electric, but then had a norvel .25 put in it. I have the firewall with the norvel mounted to it (as you can see from the pics the firewall was ripped out) and would like to make it electric again. I has really clean lines and i'm betting it would scream with the right set up.

Ideas????

Flyboy for a plane that size it's not going to take a lot to make it fly nice on ele, something like a 1750 KV outrunner would make it pretty fast, the 2410-21 with a 7X4 prop and it would scoot right along
if you wanted more thrust you could go with a 2410-18 and use a 8X8 prop, this would give about the same speed but offer more vert ability
both of these could run using a 18 to 25 amp ESC and as small as a 3S 1300 ma battery

the biggest thing is add weight to it till it ballances and then decide wich motor/batt combo will give you the best performance
I try to always use batt size to add weight, not ballast
just taking a stab at it from it's design I'm guessing a 2000 or 2200 ma batt would be about right to get your CG where you want it
Oh and that's a nice looking plane, very sleek, a bit like if not a pylon racer
Good Luck with it

thanks very much for the info AJ. I will look into those motor sizes. I have to do some repair to the fire wall and close in the nose again. I currently have a 1500, 1800 and a 2100 Mah 3C lipo pak available so i can do some testing once i've got it back ship shape. Who makes the 2410-21 and the 2410-18?

Geoff

I'll post you a link for them later, you can get them from hobby city for around 6 to 9.00 or raidentech for about 10.00 to 12.00 with faster shipping
also there is a little motor for 6.00 at hobby city that would prob do just fine as well

I would make the nose area your batt bay if it were me, looks like your going to need the foward weight
I have a simular plane I'm working on right now that I'm having to use 2 3S 2000 packs to get it to ballance right, and they are right behind the motor in an area just like your plane

AJ, what do you think about this one? Brushless Outrunner TowerPro-A2409-18 1000kv / 180W and an ESC to match. I doesn't come with a mount but i am sure i can make one.

I think that would work OK, as long as your AUW doesn't get over about 28 oz
you will have to play with props to find what works best for you
I use that motor on one of my planes with a 10X7 prop
I have also used it on another plane with a 8X8 prop
both of which do well, the plane using the 8X8 is lite and is like a rocket
the one with the 10X7 is heavy at 32 oz and I'm realy pushing the motors capability in that one

best way to deal with this would be to fix the plane up and install the servo's and have a weight on the reciever and what the battery, ESC and motor will weigh before i pick a setup.

You can do it that way also, I think your on the right track as to the motor config,, at leave the KV rating as that will let you use a prop that will look more scale to the plane
here's a pic of the little plane I picked up I'm working on, I'm putting a mpjet 480 geared setup on it, helps with the needed weight and lets me use a bigger prop

I started peeling the covering off and found out that the rudder was broken off, just being held on by covering and the one wingtip was smashed to mush under the covering.  The plane was thrown in with another one that i bought so i'm not out any money but i don't think it's worth fixing.  I would like to find out the make and model so i could build another one.geoffany guesses??
