Hi,
you can kick the gear forward toward the leading edge by adding 1/8'' of shim stock in back of the gear. This will help alot.

Frank

ill have to think about putting a shim in the back of the gear to make sure the retracts still fit into the cups.

76,it's all about throttle and elevater control and lllloootttsss of practice.Take your time and don't shove the throttle wide open, just ease it forward untill you get some speed then ease up on the elevater untill you gain enough speed to rotate. As I said,it takes practice. Enjoy.. Tom

Just remember when the tail comes of the ground you are flying the airplane. Every thing you have learned and will learn will take place in a matter of seconds

yup shim and toe in slightly. you are flying the second that tail comes up keep her on the runway if you need lots of up elev you may be a tad nose heavy. shim the gear and try again. you are correct premature lift off is a bad thing

yes, shim the gear and increase the throttle very slowly. Let the plane get rolling and slowly increase throttle. By the time the tail comes up there should be enough air flowing over the elevators to prevent a nose over. You could also try a few clicks of up elevatorjust a few, to keep the tail on the ground a little longer and help keep it from nosing over. Other than that, it's all throttle control.

Nobody mentioned flaps. Does anyone else use them on on takeoff?

I take off my P-51 with flaps at half-deflection (1/2 of landing flap deflection).
For my plane, this really helps alot when the wheels finally come off the ground.
The plane is much more stable on the inital climb.

763 next time to the field walk the plane out to the runway with the engine off (not running), tx and rx on. set the tx on the ground and push he model down the runway. it will most likely turn left or right. that means the tailwheel is not trimed. on grass the tail wheel can be off by quite a bit but on black top it has to be right. use the rudder trim to make the model roll straight. then watch for transition on your takoff roll. if the plane transitions to a flying stab easily your good. if during transition the plane vears hard to one side as it transitions that means the tail wheel and rudder are not aligned the way they want to be. think about what you are holding and which way it veared when the tail comes off the ground to figure out which way the tw needs to be moved in relationship to the rudder.

All the above is good advise. Gear shim and/or lots of practice is the answer here, Throttle control is also a main key. take it easy on the roll up. Just run it up nice and easy, with full up on elevator. As you build speed, let up on the elevator. Continue to throttle up and the tail will rise, then when speed is enough, maybe a little kick of elevator to get her off the ground. Practice, practice, practice, then practice some more.

Just one more point on shiming the gearit doesn't take much of a shim to make a big difference, especially on a paved runway. I would start with a very small shim, say 1/8" and try that first. You might be surprised how much difference it makes.

I'd encourage you NOT to shim the gear at all but learn to fly the plane using, Throttle, Rudder and elevator. On a paved runway there should be no need to shim the gear.
