I am buying the kit and it should be here Tuesday. I am pretty new to the RC world and I need to get the electronics and I dont know what to get or what direction to go in..... just been trying good all night and all I could come up with is that I need a 55T that is the most popular... so what about the radio, servo, speed control, Battery?

Thanks
Jr

We need to know your budget to help you out. Low ball, middle, high ball. I would skip the low ball. In the end, you'll prob wish it was high ball. Boils down to pay now, or pay later.

I just finished a kit build. I am new to crawling, but not RC.
I went with:

Novak Rooster and 55t brushed.
Hobbico CS-150 servo
Futuba 3PM 2.4g FASST Tx/Rx

Top Speed 2mph.

What whipnet has is a good starting point. I'm assuming he has the Rooster Crawler (rather than a standard Rooster) speed control. You don't necessarily need a 2.4Ghz radio system, but they sure are nice. A good alternative to that would be the Airtronics MX-3 or the MX-3S. Any Futaba FM system would be good too.

As a comparison, a "high-end" setup would be the Novak Goat system (brushless speed control/motor combo), a Spektrum DX3R radio and something like a Hitec-5955 steering servo. That would run you about $600-700. whipnet's setup probably ran around $300 and more than half of that is the cost of the radio...

Okay sooooooooo I doubt I will get that crazy with it. Meaning that I will spend 300 over the 300 I am spending on the truck already.. so what would be a basic but good enough to git er done kind of route?? not crap but middle range stuff?

You could get the truck and the novak rooster esc/55t motor set, a set of saddle pack batts and a super cheap radio set for around 400$. Or go with a 55 turn motor and a cheap esc but I would reccomend the rooster crawler if your going brushed cause the zero delay and drag brake is worth the xtra 50 bucks compared to a 30 $ cheap esc.

Middle Range:

Just found this @ TCS; a GREAT electronics combo! And fairly inexpensive:

Or this: (not nearly as good, but for backyard bashing, it would suffice)

Radio:

Airtronics MX-3 FM transmitter/receiver http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCHA8**&P=ML

2/3A size battery pack:
http://www.tcscrawlers.com/6-cell-2-3A-Double-Barrel-Battery-Pack-with-Deans-Connectors-7.2-volt-p-16273.html

You could skimp more on the radio and get an AM transmitter, but AM tends to be too glitchy for my tastes but is usually adequate for a crawler

Just to say what I went with:

Novak Rooster and 55t brushed. I got a deal from my dealer for $89 bucks.
I bought a servo, reciver, and the controller online from Ebay. Its basicly all from a Tmaxx (I also have a servo reciever controller from my Cen CT5 that I was thinking of using what do you guys think
?). Just over $21 bucks for all of that
x2 Venom 3600 Batterys. $26 bucks ea.

Thank you for all your help guys! If there is any opinons on my choices just let me know!

How do I make it water proof? Just put the reciver in a ballon or something? Or do I need to put everything in some kind of ballon?
