I bought a Trex 450 X or XL and a swap and shop with some upgrades such as a aluminum swash plate. This appears to be an older unit possibly the original X that was upgraded for CCPM the anti rotation device is in the front not the back. The frame has some damaged that was glued back together.

The people helping me set it up have suggested I replace the frame and or but a new kit and use this one for spare parts.

I am considering buying a 450SA ARF. My question how much of this X or XL can be reused for the SA as spare parts.

Thank you,

Mark

I dont believe to much can be used. The sa is like the se but with a aluminum frame and plastic tail housing and head. it has the 120 deg swash for ccpm. so the frame and all links are diff then the x or xl if its the x then the boom and belt are shorter then the sa. You could use the eletronics off it and the tail housing and not sure what you can use on the head. The sa is a very nice bird I have one and love it. I would go that route rather then buying a xl or x.

Feel free to correct me if I explained anything wrong.

mbart, Do you already have the X? if you do, why not just build it and fly it? Your servos, radio, reciever and battery will most likely be useable. THeses are learning / training machines and will teach you alot. along with a sim and lessons like Radd's. Doc

Hi, thank you for the information. I do allready have the Heli bought it at a RC Swap N Shop. Have had trouble figuring out what it is.

I think it was an X that was upgraded to be ccpm with 120 degree swash plate.

Everytime I try to get a heli person to help they find some other new thing wrong. I keep putting more money into this one and have not even gotten it off the ground yet.

I have replaced the blade grips, O rings on blade grips, and feathering shaft. I was now told the blades still seem a little loose. Looks like maybe a new head?

Any way thank you for all your comments. Since I would not be able to use much of this for spare parts I will probably keep putting more money into it and make it fly.

Thank you,

Mark

i bought my first trex today the trex 450 sa. took me 2 hours to put it together. very simple.

here's whats in it.

align 430XL 3700kv ( from the trexsev2)
align bl35x esc
hs65mg cyclic
gy401 gyro
futuba S9650 tail servo
ar6000
dx6

the trex xl or trex x is the older version trex. it uses mechicanical mixing for the swash. direct to swash is defintely the way to go. setup is also alot easier. i'm only 3 months in on this hobby and was able to put together the sa in 2 hours.

While I think there are some advantages and disadvantages to each system (eccpm vs mechnical ccpm) I don't really think the eccpm is easier to set up. On the contrary there is the thought that one servo, one function is easier to set up, as opposed to 3 servos working together to complete each function. With the X/XL set up having one servo slightly faster or slower than the others does not completely screw up the mix.

That said, all my helis are eccpm as that is the direction the industry has headed and I believe there is an advantage to having the power of 3 servos working together puts less stress on each servo but I don't really think there was anything intrinsically wrong with the mechanical mix.
