I picked up two matching Curare's back in April. The one in the picture is marked number 4. The mate is marked number 3. I can only assume that when the builder built these two there must have been a number 1 & 2. Number 4 had never been flown and I had to glue all the control hinges. Number 3 had been flown but is in very good condition.

I flew number 4 (only one flight) for the first time Tuesday. Had a problem with the nose gear so the gear stayed down. Using an OS .61 FX with APC 12 x 8 prop. Plane flew very well with only two clicks Aileron and three clicks up Elevater to trim it out. I actually ran the tank dry and had to land dead stick. No problem. I had already checked the stall, which it doesn't. Just mushes forward and looses altitude.

Put two more flights on it on Wednesday. Fixed the nose gear problem. Gear up this plane hauls. I felt like a little kid playing with his new toy. What a wonderful feeling. This plane is a real treat. Will need minor tweeking I'm sure, but all in all I'm quite happy. I now know why Hanno put flaps on his plane. This thing does not want to land. I must have made five landing attemps before finally getting this thing on the ground. I just kept flying right on by when it got into ground affect.

The third picture below is a detail of one of the main retracts. Can anyone tell me what brand or make of retract these are. I took these retracts off of number 3 in order to finish number 4. I would like to get number 3 in the air now, but need another set of retracts. Both planes where set up for these retracts. Any help would be appreciated.

Looks like a Dave Brown Products retract to me. Before that they were marketed as Southern RC Pro Retracts.
I have some Dave Browns and the pushrod hookup looks the same. If it is a DB they have all parts for them in stock and still make the complete units.

Good Luck and your Curare looks sweet.

Peace

Mark O

Mark O, that's it. I was just checking out the retracts on Dave Brouwn's web site and that's them. I thought I was going to spend the next year trying to buy retracts off the bay or some where. Thank you very much.

I'm working on a Tiporare and I decided to add Hanno's flaps. Hope they work like I think they will.

There should eventually be a glass version available in the US based on a Quality Line Kit...

Here is glass version from Germany I think?
