I've done the whole break in process..got the car running well (hyperspeed, single speed 1/10 buggy with vx.16 motor).and then broke some parts....ordered new upgraded alum parts to avoid more down time!!! and now I can't seem to get the car started/running like it did so easily before!?!!?

I set the car up to the "factory specs"...hoping that I could start over and tune it up again...but to no avail....is the standard "2 1/2 -3 turns out on the high speed needle and flush with silver collar on low speed" -set up good for the vx.16 also...or is that just a good start point for the .18???.....because i am doing that and following the startup procedure as i did before...but i am having alot of trouble getting going again..

i prime the carb by plugging the muffler and turning the motor till' fuel gets to the carb...then turning the motor a few times without the igniter on...then putting the igniter on and trying to start (used a high speed drill because I was having roto start issues!!) i got it to go a few times ...but not for long...i am sick of going to you tube and getting some 8 year old kid in england who seems to have no trouble getting his started AT ALL!!!! I work on cars and atv's...but I am stumped with this little @$#$#@ ....sorry

any help ...or a link to an endepth tutorial on tuning these little fellas would be a great help.

thanks to all who have been quick to help before,,,and to all who do now!!

cheers
Stephen.

try this:

turn the high end needle screw out completely and remove the glow from the engine. Turn the engine upside down and pull the pull start few times to clear the guel from the engine.

First if your engine was flooded it wouldnt turn over very easy and you stand the risk of breaking your crank. Second the drill doesnt have enough rpms to turn a motor over very quickly it will work but it takes a bit.

Check your ignitor, make sure that its fully charged, then check your glow plug and make sure that it is glowing. Odds are that your glow plug is bad, or that you do not have enough charge on the ignitor.

I have a metered igniter that was reading full (5-6) the whole time i was having trouble....i was also swapping between three plugs i have and checking them out of the car to see that they were glowing ....no problems there.....

Its sunday now...so I'll get back at it soon!...i'll update thread for future searches and help to others if I remidy the problem!

Assuming that everything is charged up, you glow igniter has good batts, you plug is good, and your engine is not flooded in the cylinder, you are simply starting your engine way too rich. I am also assuming you have not gotten the engine to a fully broken in state, you are somewhere between where you did the initial break-in and before the engine has become fully broken in. This is the stage in which you must be slowly and incrementally leaning the engine in until it is fully broken in. Of course, even after fully broken in, you will still need to tune for different weather conditions.

Do this: Buy a hobby grade heat gun from the local RC store. Preheating an ABC engine is a must in my opinion, especially if it is new, has jsut gone through the initial break-in, and up until it is fully broken in. (Of course, I am assuming the VX engines are chrome plated sleeves, not nickle plated sleeves. ) So, make it a practice to try to preheat your engines up to as close as possible to 200degrees F before starting (at least up until the engine is fully broken in).
Now, with preheating aside, from factory setting, turn your HSN and LSN in by 3/4 turn lean. Do not be shy to lean the needles, the factory settings are way too rich anyways for any engine, VX, or even Rossis. If I were you, I would set your needles at to where they were before you engine was acting up and tune from there until it will stay running.
