I wanna stick to 1:18 scale because hop ups and parts are very cheap, and a smaller truck should be small enough to drive inside, but big enough to drive outside. How long does it take to charge the Lipo battery that comes with the MMB? How much money will I need to make the MMB or the MLST2 almost unbreakable? What parts need to immediately upgraded or replaced? For the RC18MT, What parts do I need to buy or replace? I figured I need to put about $60 plus shipping and handling to make it a reliable truck. I already have a Losi peak detection charger. Is the extra money for the MMB or the MLST2 really worth it? can someone please answer my questions?
Thanks: Ryan

Well if you keep it stock, the mini lst2/MMB is pretty tough... its when people get a bunch of aluminum or brushless motors and locked diffs that you start breaking things... I love my mini monster baja, its tempting to get a locked center diff so i can do wheelies, but I know all that will do is put more stress on the rest of the drivetrain, and make it handle worse.... So ive decided to resist the upgrade urge and keep it stock... so far nothings broke, and not because I baby it either... ive crashed it plenty, hard enough to make me cringe, and its held up....

as far as the lipo in the MMB, it charges in just over an hour with the stock charger... the nimh in the MLST2 takes 6 hours with the stock charger.... and its slower and doesnt drive as long on a charge... I got a mini monster baja over the MLST2 for the lipo.... it will cost a lot more to upgrade to lipo than to just pay the extra to get the MMB from the start.... I also liked the wheel/tire combo on the MMB way better....
Then I got a raminator shell.... Mini Monster Raminator!!!

My RC18MT arived 3 days ago a and i have ran about 7 charges through it. It is alot more powerful than i thought. It is running awsomely. It handles buetifully off road whoevr says it cant handle offroading does not know what they are talking about. CALVINO the shocks dont leak but the plug on the bottom will pop off it you crash super hard. so if you did not notice the plug gone its not leaking your puoring it thru a tube so just slide that right back on.
I have bashed this thing to the limit and it is still running hard and strong..
get the RC18MT i am so glad i did. I dont know what i would have done without it
I drive on 1/10 scale tracks and and it keeps up with the bigger guys out there it rocks...

plus its lighter and faster stock than a mlst2, dont know about speed on the baja but the rc18t/mt can jump way farther than mlst's because they weigh more so they need more speed. My mamba'd mlst still couldnt jump farther than my brothers stock vendetta and mine had a lipo in it =[

Light is good sure, but here is my experience... my mini quake weighs quite a bit less than my MMB, but the MMB handles way better. I have never driven an RC18mt so cannot comment there....

As for speed, its all the the gearing.... you can definitely gear the MLST up a bit to get a higher top speed, as it is its geared more for acceleration and run time stock. I have my mini quake geared down to a 14t pinion, its about the same speed as my MMB now, but the MMB accelerates way faster. The downside to higher gearing is less run time.... thats why its geared the way it is, to get an acceptable balance of speed and run time....

for the rc18mt:
-get a metal servo saver clip and the DP drag link from thetoyz.com (cheap parts) This will make the steering more than precise enough for bashing
-shim your diffs correctly (or just get the steel diff gears from thetoyz.com)
-get small brass compression washers to slide over the outdrives (very very cheap from any hardware store)
-get the RPM front bumper (also rather cheap)
Honestly, you dont even really have to spend 50 or 60 bucks on top of the truck... Thos upgrades can easily be done for less than 40 dollars. With those upgrades the truck is bullet proof. until you start jumping it over 5 or 6 feet high, you will not break it with those upgrades. The truck is super stable, but still can go through grass up to about 3 inches high, on gravel, etc. etc.
Then in the future there are tons of upgrades that are relatively cheap that can make the truck faster and stronger for bigger jumps.

I've currently own both a RC18MT and a MMB. The MMB is a monster truck in the truest sense of the word the RC18MT is just a truggy. The only reason Associated can get away calling it an MT is because it is bigger then the other RC18s in the series. If you look around you can get a MLST2 or MMB for just a bit more then the RC18MT and get WAY more for your money. If you were to buy a MT and try to upgrade it to have all of the featuers of the MMB you will end up spending more then you would for the MMB, and still have less then half the ground clearance. Perosnally as soon as I get my pics posted you'll see my RC18MT for sale.

as far as ground clearance goes, the rc18mt only has trouble with taller grass and big rocks. on any other terrain it does just fine.

What you have to do is seriously think about where you are going to run it. Be objective about it and really analize your needs. If you have a dirt patch or local track to run on, the MT will be a hoot. If your like me and have mostly grassy areas to run, you might be dissappoionted in how it handles the grass, unless you keep the grass real short. The grass in my back yard usually just long enough for the tips of the grass to come up above the wheel nuts while sitting still. It was not bad, but at speed it tended to "float" on top of the grass instead of plowing through it. It made for some tricky handling issues, kinda like drifting. The MMB just runs right though it no problems. Some of the difference also has to do with the weight of the vehicle. The MMB weighs more so it sinks into the grass more then the MT ever did, giving the MMB more traction. When I first bought the MT I really thought that I made a good choice. I really failed when I analized where it was I was going to run it. I don't have any jumps, except a driveway cut and a curb, neither are going to stress eaither car. How ever I have a ton of flat grassy areas in both the front and back yards, along with some tiny dirt patches and rock gardens. The extra ground clearance and torque of the MMB really make it shine in the environment I have to drive it in.

I was breaking a-arms and axles even when my MLST2 was stock. They don't stand up well to bad landings. The trouble with keeping it stock is the motors are pretty slow - even with twin motors the stock MLST2 didn't have enough punch for me.

The motor on the RC18 isn't anything special, but the whole truck is so light it doesn't need a motor upgrade to make it fast. Out of the box the RC18 has better acceleration.

The MLST has better ground clearance but that means it flips easier because the center of gravity is higher.

But I like driving my MLST2 because it takes more concentration - it's not as easy to drive as my RC18. It flips and rolls over bumps that I can just plow right thru with the RC18, so it's more of a challenge to drive the MLST2 fast...I like that because none of my friends can drive my MLST2 as well as I can...
