Smack First of all happy belated b-day!! As for the prop issue you will probably find that the 2 bladed prop is going to the better than the 3. There has been an awful lot of balance problems with the 3 bladed prop. I seemed to get better performance from the 2 bladed prop and nothing but broken pieces of prop whenever I used the 3. Actually went through 2 props (3bladed) within 24 hours of getting my new corsair. It seemed that just touching the grass at our strip would take a blade right off. When I examined the broken blades I could see why. The point where the blade attaches to the center is not only very thin but also hollow inside. Now whether this is due to the molding process or just bad engineering I dont know but at $5 a crack (literally) I wasnt willing to giver another go. IMO stick to the 2 blader for flying and use the 3 blader for display (looks better in my opinion) Good luck and happy flyin F2F

I received the F4U as a birthday present this past weekend and was up and flying in no time. All the flights were with the installed 2 blade prop and I have now switched to the 3 blade and will give that a try this weekend. What is everyone's impression (preference) on either Prop?? I will go with the majority here and say that Horizon has done a good job on this.

Steve

Steve,
I too received mine for my birthday last Friday, the 26th. Bought it myself! Had it planned...

me thinks they should re-do the P-51. A solid foam with gear and lipo and outrunner would be nice.

Hear Hear to that comment. My buddy had the spitfire and it was nice and all but not nearly as durable. Not to mention missing the 4 chanel control and brushless! Although, Im not sure that it would be cost effective for horizon to do this haha. They have so many on the shelves, but maybe the could sell a replacement airframe made of the same foam as the Corsair. People would buy them up, and maybe a brushless upgrade. I bet they would fly off the shelves!!!

I have the PKZ Spitfire, Mustang and now the Corsair. Bought the Spitfire first. Taught myself to fly with it. Once I got that down...two planes later...upgraded to LiPo. Wow, never look back to the old batteries again. Then I got a Mustang. Have only flew that one with LiPo's. It is a HANDFUL compared to the Spitfire. Totally have to be on your toes during the hand launch. Had a couple close calls. It will not do aerobatics nearly as well as my Spit. It seems to struggle just to loop! Have the most flights on the Spit, that may be why I feel it is the easiest to fly of the three? It will do anything I ask, and more. It is the most predictable in flight, whatever it is doing. Belly landing is a breeze, it thinks it is a glider I swear. I am in the process of doing a brushless upgrade on the Spit, once done, it will be the fastest of the three by far. Right now, same battery and motor, the Mustang is faster by a hair IMO, need to radar em? Corsair is quickest now due to the brushless, not by much however.
Have had the Corsair for a week now. It has quickly become my favorite of the three. The reasons are obvious...BRUSHLESS...2.4 G Sweet Transmitter...Stock Lipo...RUDDER and last but not least...LANDING GEAR!!! Don't get me wrong, the Spit is a breeze to hand launch. There is just an added thrill taxiing my Corsair to the runway, taking off and making that perfect (or bouncing) landing, and taxiing back. It is just such and added dimension to the hobby for me.
If Parkzone were to re-release the Mustang and/or the Spitfire as a PNP and RTF like the Corsair, I would be camped out at my LHS ready to buy!! Just when I think they cannot do any better, the company totally amazes me. Been in this hobby quite some time and I am amazed how far it has come, particularly in the electric RC. I am sure everyone is aware the E-Flite mCX is now available. Have had one since Monday. I am far from a heli guy but listen now and hear me later...go get one of these! You can bind it right to the Corsair transmitter. I cannot put mine down...only to re-charge it.

Has anyone thought of putting floats on the corsair. I am thinking of buying a set and trying to fit them on my plane there is a lot of water by me and it would open up a lot of places to fly. I put my video camera on my Corsair and flew it around I have a bigger camera it wheighs a half pound didnt really know how well it was going to work with the extra wheight on it. It flew a little slow and responded slow but flew pretty good just a little nose heavy. It is neat to see the view from up high.

hmmm, If I was going to put floats on my corsair,(which I might add is totally communist ) I wouldnt buy them, what a waste of money, they might not even work. Instead,I would go to my local home improvement store, but some of that pink insulation foam or something simmilar, like 7.00 for a 8 ft sheet lol. then I would cut several pieces and epoxy then together. Then I would sketch, carve and sand out the shape of the floats, add a nylon hinge to the rear of each and then custom fit them to the landing gear after I removed the wheels. That way I could get EXACTLY what I wanted and then also save money. Drew a simple idea of how I would do it, not sure how it would fly with floats to be honest, but worth a try. Also, you sould have to rig a push rod system for the paddle rudders, I would run mine out from the most forward hole on the fuse. I would use a cable inside a flexable pushrod tube(plastic). You may also want to coay the floats, heck you could even glass them, cut it down the middle and take the foam back out and glue the two epoxy halves back together with some ply formers inside.. Then you would have hollow/strong floats. Id guess like...

7.00- foam
1-2.00-hinges
1-2.00 nylon straps
3.00-ply
5.00-epoxy

total=19.00 not bad!!! However I have the hinges, pushrods, foam, ply and epoxy so it wouldnt cost me jack...and so if they didnt work I wouldnt be out any money lol.

Giddyuperic,
I guess the real question is, have you been flying for a long time? How much experience do you have as far as low wing. I dont now of any "Bad" flight issues, hard to stall, but that doesnt mean it cant be done. If you have never hand launched, it can be a little hard, as I use my right hand and have to make it to the sticks before it crashes. Wind likes to beat her around, so you have to stay ahead of her on windy days. Mine only took a few clicks of up to trim her out. Landing on the gear is pretty straight forward. She flys great right out of the box, but I will say that if you have no experience with this typw of plane I would get help. I am sure there are some people that could fly this as a first plane, you may be one of them. However, I have found she handles a lot differently then my nitro planes did, so something to think about. Good luck!!

I came late to the middle school that I usually meet my RC Flyer pals but, got there before they left and was able to provide a good demo flight of my new Park Zone F4U Corsair.

That model in 8 MPH winds (Cross wind @ Runway) and at the Oval 440 school Track performed flawlessly and was able to command it to Touch & Go in cross wind and demonstrate how well it flew at 5 mistakes high with no power and FULL UP Elevator....it just maintained the wings level and mushed forward like a piece of paper!

Inverted flight, Barrow Rolls, axial rolls, Loops, etc.... were easy and those there were very impressed.

I believe at least three RC Flyers are heading to the nearest RC Hobby Shop that is open on Sunday to get one!

i just flew with the 3 blade and i agree that it seems a little slower... i was actually afraid for a moment that it was gonna come crashing down on me... it looks great but i think the 3 blade prop will be for display only...

We have four of these at our club all the same vintage and running identical power systems and in our experience the planes with the three blade prop are faster. The two-blade setup seems to have faster acceleration but at top speed, a plane with the three blade will slowly but surely walk away from a plane flying a two blade.

Has anyone added flaps yet? I thought I was getting tired of the Parkzone stuff and wanted something faster. I took out 10 planes this weekend with my son one which my farher in law bought us which was the SU-27 that I added bigger motors and dual batteries. The County cop was patroling the developement so I had him run the radar on the jet and ran 3 passes 94mph, 95mph and on the last run 102mph then boom 100s of tiny little pieces.I decided to stick with the slow stuff So back to the corsair and t-28 and thats where I will stay. The corsair drops pretty hard on landing but I keep trying to fly it like the t-28 that I always use flaps. Im going to put flaps on it for next weekend but wanted to see another one first to make sure the appearance isnt too bad. I do like the way the corsair flies much smoother than the T-28

doesn't that mean shorter flight times because of the demand on the battery... i enjoy a quick acceleration for those last minute bail outs but how do you feel about the comparison at half stick or 75%?

I think the difference in flight times, like the difference in top speeds, is relatively small. We haven't done any comparison of half or three quarter stick but I'm sure the difference is proportional to the throttle setting. Personally I like the looks of the three blade a lot more than the two blade but I prefer flying with the two blade. Also, be aware that if you fly off grass a three blade will very likely not last very long. Usually one nose-over is all it takes to break one. The two blade is much tougher.

I just got my PZ Corsair RTF. It's my first plane, although I've been racing RC cars for 4 years. I've always had a love for planes, though. My dad used to take the family to see them at the local RC airfield when I was a little kid. Now I'm a big 31 y-o kid with a new toy!

Took it out for it's first flight last night and landed it in a tree. Then I got it going nicely until I panicked and did a nice death-spiral into the ground. Luckily only the motor mount and cowl got damaged badly. I'm a tad concerned about my LiPo pack, as I missed the screw fix behind the firewall and it got into my pack a touch. Nothing happened, so I'm guessing it'll be okay for now. The rest was body damage fixable with CA. I knew I should of resisted the urge to try it until I had more time on the sim!

Now I've got a few hours on the sim and am waiting for my parts! Can't wait to take it out again, especially now that I can actually land properly. Flying isn't so hard! Just need a lot of hours of practice, just like racing rc cars. Right now, I'm just happy to be able to take off and land and do a few easy maneuvers.

This thing is the best value in RC, period. Decent little radio and the plane flies great! I know I'm already hooked, and I'm already looking forward to adding to my collection!

[question] what is CA?

i know its an adhesive of some sort and i use 5 minute epoxy... i don't know what CA is though...

CA is generally known as "super-glue" or "krazy-gule". The super thin instant bond glue. Chemical name is Cyanoacrylate.
In the RC word of uses, they come in various types: foam safe, thin, thick, gap-filling, etc.

No, use either or, I would really suggest 15 minute - 30 minute epoxy. I used 25 minute to put mu landing gear mount back into the wing. Ca Im sure works great but I like epoxy. The rest of the wing will melt before the gear mount breaks again. BUT if you do use CA use Foam safe, from what I have been told plain old CA will melt the foam.
