Setting up my first jet and having trouble getting failsafe set on a 9C with FASST module.
ECU is single channel and I would prefer to have the shutdown on a switch so I don't have to hold the trim will it goes from top to bottom. Anyone have a similar setup?

Hi Craig. Not sure if your 9C is similar to my 7 channel system, But have you tried going into the trim menu and cranking the channel 3 value up as high as it will go. (40 on the 7C)
This will enable you to have full travel of your throttle trim in just 6 clicks, takes just over a second to bring it from full up to full down.

After studying the manual i dont know if you can assign a switch to shut the motor down without having the aux cable connected. Have you tried playing with the throttle cut feature on the Tx?

Thanks a cowell, Yes on the throttle trim...goes really fast at 40 and this is how it's working now.

Manual isn't helping me either, thought sure I could assign to a switch. I tried setting throttle cut to max (40%) but the ECU won't detect low trim using the trainer switch (F).
Figure I'll call JetCat tomorrow and see if they can help.

What you might want to look at is doing a throttle to throttle Pmix and assigning it to a 3 position switch.

Set it up so that the down position povides a throttle position equivalent to full trim down. Set the up position so that it gives you a high idle (ie. 55,000 rpm). Mid position should be no mix or nominally Run mode. If you want, you could dial the throttle trim to 0 and just use the switch - giving Off, Run, High Idle.

Or assign the mix to a two position switch for just Run and Off.

Can't give you the exact steps on brand F but I use this on brand J and A.

Be careful, use a switch you know you won't touch in flight so you don't get an accidental Off condition.

This is what i do for all of my jets using the 9C. First go into your ECU and reteach the radio program by setting the trim and stick all the way up for the high position. Second for the low position, keep the throttle trim all up & the lower the stick down. Go in to your 9C throttle program and set it at 40% and assign to switch H. This will only be done in the low idle setting. The ECU will lower it when the stick is down but it will not cut off until until you hit the assign switch while the throttle stick is the down position.

Hope this helps !!!!!!

Craig,

I had a problem setting up failsafe with my JR XP9303 with a Spektrum module. Matt helped me out and solved the problem in 10 minutes flat. Here is my post which you can find a few pages back:

Ok, problem solved. Thank you to everyone for the help! And a special thank you to Matt how allowed me to call and work through the issue. With Matt's quick class on servo pulses and the ECU software I was able to figure this out.

To refresh everyone, I have a JR XP9303 (originally a 72mhz radio). I installed a Spektrum Module that came with a Spektrum AR9000 Rx. What was happening was that I could not get a "failsafe" condition. What was happening was that the lowest throttle pulse was 949. It turns out that even binding at plus and minus 150 on ATV and then going as far as plus and minus 50 and "learning RC" the failsafe on the Spektrum Rx was still 949.

So, I re-binded the system at 150, using "Pre-set Failsafe" instead of Smartsafe. Watching the throttle pulse I lowered the ATV to 40% and noticed that at low throttle, low trim, the value was 949. As I raised the ATV to 47% the throttle pulse then started to increase.

Bottom line is that you bind at 150%. Use the Pre-set Failsafe method (bind plug in the whole time instead of removing it before hitting the bind button). Reduce ATV's to plus and minus 40%. Then, learn RC. Should be good to go!

Thanks again to everyone and thank you Matt for allowing me to call you and take up your time! It was most educational!

It really helps if you plug in the GSU and go to the menu that allows you to see the values of different throttle postitions and you will see what is going on.

Jim

Mr Matt, thanks for checking up and yes on getting the ECU failsafe set. Once it was explained a bit differently it makes perfect sense. Guess I was the one who needed the "learn" process. I'd still like to move the shut-down to a switch but I'll work on that later.

Thanks to all who replied, every bit helps.
This being my first turbine, I've learned a lot.

Craig
