Hi all,

Just acquired an old 1cc diesel by Allen Engines with non R/C carby
inner diameter 0.185"
outer diameter 0.248"

recommended prop is 7x4

anybody with experience with this engine?

what rpm to expect?

what type of plane could take this engine?

Suggestion of what r/c carb to substitute?

p.s. this is my 1st post, have upload images but not sure if it'll work

Hi WB4S2.Jato

You have got yourself a fine sport engine that will operate quite satisfactory without an r/c carb (you don't need it).
Build a simple model with a wing span in the 44" to 48" region and use 2 channels (rudder and elevator).
Expect to see between 8000 to 10,000 rpm on the 7 x 4 prop using the recommend fuel mix or if not quoted, 30% castor oil, 33% ether and the rest Kerosene (Diggers blue).

I have a brand new one, but the RC version. First time I tried to run it, about 2 flicks of the prop (before any fuel even entered the line) the cylinder started to wobble. I tried to tighten it, but found that the reason it was wobbling was the rear most thread in the crankcase had stripped out, and the screw would no longer tighten. Have never been able to do anything with it since. If I could somehow find an even longer screw, I could machine a plug to go in the rear of the crankcase with a new thread in it. Or, anybody got a used crankcase they are willing to part with?

Anyways, good luck getting yours to run. Hopefully you will not have this problem, but do be aware of it.

Chris

The AE engines aren't made any more so probably no spare parts available.

See Ron Chernich's excellent web-site at http://www.modelenginenews.org/ and use the 'Engines Finder' for a bit of history of the AE engines.

I have a couple of them, the 1.5cc and the .2cc. The 1.5 is a great sport engine albeit a bit noisy for my battered lugs. The .2cc I find hard to start and keep running, but I get back to it every 6 months or so and have another go, and it is getting easier.

I had a 1.5 cc which came with a muffler. I didn't need it and moved it on. I have a .5 cc which took some running before it became friendly.

Jim,

I have an RC 1.5, didn't know they had a muffler avaiable for the AE. Mine is pretty noisy but starts easily and has excellent power.
