i finally gave my new Katana 40 and run today and i tell you guys that this model is the ducks nuts so to speak, absolutely spot on.
thanks to a few guys on this forum who suggested the correct c.o.g. from the stated 99 mm to a correct 140 mm this model is a gem to fly, i have fitted an OS 81 F Stroke which is no where near run in as yet but the grunt this engine has with this particular model is great, i only flew this with low rates set as i thought this is the way to go at first secound flights just to get used to this models caractoristics ect . take off within 30 feet not a problem [ on grass ] to hover it was at around 1/3 rd throttle and abit more it was going vertical until i had to drop out of the 500 meter limit. landing was like landing a trainer tail drager as soon as the front wheels where just about on the ground i applied a very little amount of up elevator for a perfect 3 point landing, [ 4 flights / landings ] this model has,nt seen nothing yet as its not fully run in plus its running a 14 x 6 master airscrew prop and the control rates are flat. i intend to gradually increase control rates until i get to the max, as for power if any of you guys have this model or are thinking of buying one [ katana / funtana ] same thing i would definetly go with an 80 sized 4 stroke and not a simular 2 stroke for this type of flying model , or should i say hovering 3D model. thanks again guys for your support.

i have been flying this (esm katana 40) for about a year now and love it, i had to look on the uk forums to find out about the rearward cog, i have a mag 70 on mine with fast digital servos on rudder and elevator , i can hover at just over half throttle, this is a very forgiving airframe, your os81 should be awsome when its run in, i havent found any bad habits with this plane i have about 45deg travel on all surfaces. loctite your landing gear mounting bolts, mine came loose and i lost a boltand had to land with the gear at 45deg and it damaged the cowl, enjoy and dont be scared to throw it around. Greg, your model is identical to mine. i am running Spectrum DS-821 servos with a J.R. 1100mah 4.8 v rx pack and i must say these servos are very quick and provide plenty of torque, they would be awsome on 6 volts. also i did some mod work to the undercarriage base so now i have an extra alloy plate fitted with 4 bolts instead of the stock 2.
