If you go to the Polks website and read the Airplane forum section you'll see that one of the high end users who has basically been supporting the forum by himself is reporting that he spoke to John Gill from Polks last week and he was told that Polks has decided to NOT pursue offering a 2.4 system for aircraft in the forseeable future. It's a shame as I have been a long time Tracker 111 user and was looking forward to the 2.4 system. I have a suspicion that Polks may be in trouble at this point because of not being able to keep up with the market changes in radio technology.

This is sad: all we hear is buy American, so when you do by something that should be American made you find out it’s built overseas with an American label. What is it with American manufacturing companies, if competing is not easy they give up!! Instead of working at making a better product and supporting what they make they close their doors and walk away. Years ago the best radio on the market was Kraft, yes you had to pay more for their product but it worked and they supported it, then along came the overseas radios, within no time Kraft closed their doors. I bought my Polks Radio because of the model memory, multiple channel feature and price. I’m vary happy with the product except for one programming feature that I think they could have fixed everything works great. Well I’m going to have to bite the bullet and buy an overseas product, move up to the 2.4 world where I’ll have to buy all new receivers and G-file all my old ones. Maybe I’ll add my Polks transmitter to my glass cabinet with my Kraft Radio and pass them along to some museum.

Yep, I agree 100%. It is very sad. They were an innovative company as recently as 2 years ago. Imagine, a built in scanner, synthesized frequencies, a TON of programming capabilities and 8 channels for $200???? Unbelievable. If that radio had been designed by any of the major companies it would have been double the price easy. I was really looking forward to having this radio in a 2.4 version with all of the radios programming features. Looks like I'll be getting the Airtronics RDS8000. It has the 8 channels that I need but only SOME of the programming capabilities of the TrackerIII but it is very reasonably priced like the Tracker 2.4 was going to be.

Well guys, it comes down to who you believe. Let's wait and see what Lewis Polk says.

Charley,

I'm not quite sure what or who you are referring to but if you go to Polk's website John Gill FINALLY posted <and apologized for taking so long> the fact that Polk's will not be producing 2.4 radios for aircraft use and he explains why. They will produce a car radio on 2.4 however in the near future.

If you have heard some other developments please share it with us long time Tracker users.

What I meant was that when a magazine article said one thing and a T III user said another, it's all in which report you want to believe.

Glad that Polk's has opened up about it. I'll go read Gill's post.

Later: I found a 2 wk old post by Gill. He sure didn't say much except that they weren't happy with their own experiments. There are lots of working 2.4 gig systems around. MY RDS 8000has been trouble free, fer instance.

Charley,

Yeah, John Gill's reply did seem a tad odd. They must be trying to build their own chips and everything to keep prices way down like they did with the Tracker radios. I'm still using my 2 Tracker III's and love them. I also bought the Airtronics RDS8000 2.4 a couple of months ago when I found out that Polks wouldn't be offering a 2.4 radio and have 2 planes on that with no issues. It was the 8 channel radio that I needed in 2.4 that came as close as I could find that was affordable with enough programming features like the new Tracker 2.4 would have been. I was extremely disappointed when Polk's decided against producing the 2.4 radio. They've been at it for 7 years??? I do remember Louis telling us a couple of years ago on his forum that the new Tracker IV might be made on the 900 mgz band but that's gone also now I guess.
