Met "Tom" (Hi tom) this weekend at a local park where I was flying the GP Super Sportster and afterwards he asked me to trim his GP ElectriFly Fokker D.VII WWI EP...long story short...it went in on second flight.

Mea culpa for not trusting my instincts. This plane was a handfull, specially in mild winds and definitely do not recommend it due to its small size unless you have some stick time or milder to no winds.

Despite Tom assuring me to not to worry about it I still voluntered to fix it.

Below photos of plane ready to start repairs. But first a few comments...the ribs where wing supports attached are of very light balsa instead of harder or micro-ply. The wing tips ribs as well as centers are but not for these supports. Talk about structural integrity.

The wing braces are of metal while N brackets on end are of micro ply...odd they did not go metal all around. Sure has lots of screws.

I will add photos of progress.

I wonder if the wings were aligned well? or possibly the balance was off? My friends and I fly the d7 and the se5 in winds up to 15 miles an hour without much problem..It wouldn't be pleasent to trim it out in wind like that.

The DR1 is another story ....

I hope you get it back together and flying... They will not slow down to a scale speed unless you have a head wind..they fly a little hot for scale... We use 1250 lipo's and they fly well. One friend has more battery than that but it just doesn't carry the weight well... I have recovered one of the D7s and a SE5, believe it or not the D7 is much easier as it is sturdier..
The SE5 is very frail in the bare bones...it is without a doubt much more forgiving to fly as well..

Good luck

Pete

Good luck with your DRVII. when it is flying it is a blast. Had a major carnage festival with mine and everything basically forward of the pilot was gone. It was a pile of sticks in my garbage can until a few days later I hauled it out and decided to rebuild. Many parts (landing gear, cowling, cabanes, lower wing, etc. were all on back order at Tower so I decided to craft my own.

In the rebuild I lowered the battery tray and made it bigger, and decided to place a Park 480 in it which keeps me flying slow when I want but allows me to open it up with the 2100 that sits in the tray comfortably now. the picture shows an E prop but I have a slow flyer on it now. they both do fine.

I made a new firewall and cowl plate with a screen on it. better than the plastic and more support. everything still balances out fine and i fly in a lot of wind so the plane handles it better now. When i know I am going to land in the rough stuff, I switch out the gear with a set from the GP Ultimate Bipe (they are red and I hang the DR wheels on them) cant tell unless you are real close. sure beats bending back fragile gear

Your plane will see another day of flight. used my bad accident to make some improvements
