Hey guys,

My titan and I are going backwards inverted now. The trouble is with my Gy401. It acts normal for about 3/4 of a turn then, "the gyro gets stuck." I have to add more and more rudder commad to keep the tail coming around and then it catches up and swings like crazy. Before I would get into a overcontroling nightmare, now I'm anticipating the "Stuckingness" and can keep it going, but its still ugly.

Any suggestions?

P.S. the same thing happens with regular backwards at fast speeds.

Thanks

I had a similar problem with a 401 in forward flight, and in pyros. See the thread "Weird Tail Behavior". And when I would roll the heli, the tail would just flip over about halfway through the roll, making things interesting. Piros were slow-fast-slow-fast-slow-freeze - then they would be fine. For 6 months I bugged people about it and they all wanted to blame set-up, tail blades, head bogging, belt, pilot, and everything you could possibly think of. I checked and rechecked everything, while at the same time I'm flying the crap out of my other Raptor with a GY401 and no such problems. I finally bought a new GY401 and after it was installed all my problems went away.

Since you are obviously farther down the learning curve than I am (doing backwards inverted) , the solution to your problem may not be the gyro, but don't ignore the possibilty that it just might not be functioning properly.

Hey guys, I had a lot of these same issues with the stock T/R grips. After I changed over to QuickUK grips it went away. THe TT grips are extremely limited, once I got the new grips on it will piro like a T-Rex 450...

I have the Mavrikk full metal tail assembly on mine. It was the gyro.

Where can you get those grips?

I wonder about my servo too. Its about 3years old, it shows no signs of wear, no jidders or anything. I still might get one anyways.

Ah, so the gyro was bad then?

You can get them from QuickUK or from Al's Hobbies, they carry a bunch of QUK parts for the raptor. It's a LHS here, but they ship.

You can also get the Kasama grips at Grand RC, same price.

Kasama Grips

Al's doesn't have a link on their site, but I could find out for ya or you could call them.

If you want free stuff to look at....

Make sure the tail control rod is straight along the boom. Make sure there is no binding anywhere by disconnecting the servo end and moving it with your hand. Check the tail pitch change ball where it goes into the bell crank, it tends to wear out the ball. Take apart the grips and make sure none of the radial bearings in the tail grips are notchy and there's no play between them and the tail rotor hub.

What tail blades are you using? 92mm carbons are the best bet, the stock ones are subject to flexing.

How long is your servo arm and where is the limit pot set on your gyro and how much gain are you running?

FWIW I can do rolling tail slides with a stock tail assembly, a properly set up 401, and good tail blades so I don't think you need 50 dollars worth of grips though I would highly reccomend the one piece tail hub, PV0499

BH,

Thanks for the suggestions again. Always a great read.

The control rod is straight and without binding. The ball link attached to the bell crank is not worn. I also could not find anything wrong with the blade grips.

I'm running NHP 95mm carbon blades.

My servo arm is about 11mm out. My pot limit is set to about 110%.

I have a DX7 with the gain set to 80%

I have PV0499

...... I have a Futaba 9253 servo. Is this an ok servo? I see they come with a 9254 now.

That servo is ok if its in good shape, if its electronics I'd suspect the servo before the gyro.

Might try bringing the limit down to 100 and going 14 mm or so on the servo arm.

Is this the setup you are running?

My bearing went out on my old os50. I just put in the Hyper.... OMG, that's like going from a Cessna 150 to a Lear 45!

Heliproz told me to get the Align muffler, that should be coming Monday. He says more power than the Muscle and cheaper than the Hatori. We shall see.

When I was running a 401 yes that was my setup.

Thats a nice muffler. Keep an ear on it though, some of them have baffles that come loose. Mine never have but I've seen it.
