So I recently purchased the Extra300S with the 26cc gas motor for a pretty good deal, first "bigger" plane I've had, I flew for a few years, took a few off and I'm back at it again...I am becoming very familar with 3D (i have a twist and a profile) and am able to do a lot of the stunts and what not, just curious how anyone's experience with this plane/motor set up is and how 3d capable it really is...Any feedback about the ARF would be great, the build, any problems or anything...Thanks.

Its the 72 inch?
If it is,the 26 is too small and the plane is not 3D.I think there are some posts on the plane.I think it flies well, but not for 3D.Also the gas set up ,will give a high wingloading.I am sure the combo is fine for sport aerobatics.

I have been searching for any info on this plane as well , and have come up virtually empty-handed . Someone has got to have been flying one of these . I have one i have been going back and forth trying to decide on gas or glow as well . I'm really leaning towards the gas side , just for the fuel cost alone . I have several engines in my cabinet that need a home , but i just can't decide what to use . Maybe someone can help me decide , I have : MDS 1.48 , Supertigre G2300 and G3250 , Saito 150 , YS 120 and YS 140 , Zenoah G26 and G38 , CRRCpro 26 , FPE 3.2 and DL 50 . I would like it to have enough power to pull out of a hover , but mostly just enough to sustain a good vertical pull . I realize the FPE and DL are overkill , but anyone have any suggestions ?

I imagine a 29-35cc may be just fine...if the 26 im putting in it is too weak I'll prob go with one of those.

YS 140 should do really well,if you dont add a pile of weight during construction.
I had a CMPRo Giles 202,72 inch.Well built, well designed and flew very good, but was limited in 3D perfromance.
I used an OS 160 and had unlimited power on reserve.

No , not much at all . I can't believe no one has any info on these . I am just gearing up to move into the larger stuff , so all the engines i listed , i have never had in an airplane to see how well they work . They've just been run on my test stand so far . The biggest airplane i have flown is currently a Goldberg ultimate bipe with a YS 120 spinning a slightly cut down and tip modded APC 17x4W at 9,400 static . It weighs right on 10 lbs. dry and has good vertical pull . Torque rolls are SWEET !! The Extra is probably going to come in around 14 lbs. all up , so i'm not sure which engine to put in it . I really want to go gas with it , but anything i have read , they say it becomes quite a bit harder to land . I like to see either videos , or in person what the plane flies like , before i choose my powerplants . I have mucked around with the thrust charts , but i like to see it actually work .

See , that's what i was wondering . I know it won't be a shiner in 3D , but i would like to make it my first foray into gas . I have a few other gas planes to fly after this one , as i've kind of designated it to be my " trainer " . I have been considering using one of the big Tigers , because i can mix the fuel for cheap as well . I fly alot , and those bigger 2 strokes use alot of fuel .

A gasser in this size will likely stress the frame, especially landing gear,If its CF,it will break. There has been many posts of people trying this, and yes the planes fly ok,but have high stall speeds, snap easily, seem low on vertical power, and land hot.Overall it seems people just part them out and then try something else.
If you want a 26 cc gasser, there are a few other choices that will perform better than this Extra. My Giles was 11.5 pounds, the Extra is about the same size.14 pounds is not what you want to fly at.A few had a 26 gasser in the 72 inch Giles from CMPRo and were not entirely happy with that combo.Put the YS 120 or 140 in it.Then you can get the maximum performance from the airframe.

You've got a great array of engines.
If you are tight on cash,I would take the G 38 or DL 50 and get one of the Great Planes 40-50 cc offerings.
For a few extra $ get a real 50cc aiframe and use the DL 50 and enjoy the rewards of large scale gas right away.

The YS 140 has really been my choice for glow if i go that route . I just may take your advice and go with that . All my YS's have been good performers , and i have a few .

I've got quite an extensive supply of hobby stuff to say the least . This affliction with R/C stuff has been a passion of mine for years . I refer to it as my " crack " . Thanks for the offer to purchase , but i'm doing OK for cash right now . I have airframes and engines up to G62 that are waiting to be flown , all in due time . I'm quite methodical in my approach to the larger stuff . It's not that i'm not confident in my abilities , i've just established a pecking order in the hangar . I want to experience the hobby in as much entirety that i can . I know that once i go to gas , my glow stuff will probably suffer neglect .

So do you think the 26CC would be too much stress on the air frame or just not enough power..? I wanted to go gas over glow just bc everyone at my field agrees gas is more reliable, cheaper and burns less fuel in a flight...A lot of the big 4 strokes will go through an average sized tank in less th an 10 minutes....Yeah the 26 was just recommended, I have a couple planes that land hot right now so that wouldn't be anything new to me (i'd prefer they dont lol)....but the planes all together, have the motor so I guess i'll see how it flies (won't be until next week at least because of work) and if its really poor possibly go with a YS then...Thanks.

nitro- when you say snap easily do you mean the airframe or the stunt?

Also are the Saito's as good as the YS or the YS are better? Thanks again
