hi there i just traded some airplane stuff for a boat and took it to the water this weekend and i think i am hooked. the boat did not run as fast as i would have tought it should. maybe 20 mph. i tried to trim it up as much as i could. the shaft comes out of the bottom of the hull and not the transom. it has a maculla weed waker motor and i tuned it to its best rpm and it still was no faster. it is a 54" fiberglass hull and is fairly heavy to me. can you guys tell me about what size prop i should have for speed. any help would be much apreciated. thank you

If you are running a stock zenoah, a good starting prop would be a prather 270 or 275.

Here's some prop info you might find useful http://www.rcprops.com/TechNotes/rcprop_tech_info.htm

Read it again guys, he's running a Mac, not a Zen or any other engine.
Seriously, you're not going to get a lot of speed out of a Mac and 20 MPH is about it, maybe 25 max.

Guys, I am building the 48 inch woody and I will be using a stock homelite 26cc. What do you think about the Prather 265? Is it too small?

Use at least a 270.

275 or 280 would be better. Homelites come in 25cc or 30, no 26's that I know of.
Octura X470/3's are pretty good all around props too. that's my cut down 280 on RCProps site too!

There are homelite trimmers with 26cc engines.

I stand corrected, please show us pictures of it when you can as Homelite is owned by Ryobi now and I would like to compare it to the old Homelite castings.

Id say your about at its max for a submerged drive boat, what prop are you using now?.You cant use a prather 270 or similar as these are surface drive props. You might want to ask someone who runs submerged drives with these types of motor?.You have a big boat there and a weedy is going to struggle even with surface drive to hit 30 mph in that size hull,i have a 48" woody with a 28 cc weedy and she hits 30 mph with surface drive.

thanks martno1fan. and thanks to all of your comments , it has helped me out so much. i have been reading a lot of these forums and have decided to convert to a surface drive, for that will help out with the trimming out of the hull. i am also working on a homelite engine with a coil that has no rev limiter. this is were i am at now 30cc crank , 26cc piston , rod and cycnlder, big bore walbro, .005 or .006 squish , raised port timmig on both sides, and now tring to degree timming on fly wheel. yesterday it back fired and blew the cylnder off of the crankcase by pulling all the treads out of the jug. i have also reduced the crankcase volume. thank you all of rc universe boaters for yall have been so helpfull. keep the comments comming. my brain is like a sponge soaking it all in. and by the way my prop is a prather 270 polished and sharpned.

.006 squish is too low that is probably why the jug blew off, you need somewhere around the .020 mark
