I bought a second hand T-rex 600e recently and have checked it over, rebuilding where necessary and it now fly’s great, but I have an intermittent tail problem which almost resulted in a crash today.

The tail holds fine most of the time but every now then, when I am turning the heli around at the end of a medium speed run, the tail becomes sluggish/slow to turn. I then give it more rudder to complete the turn but it’s almost like its sticking, because then it will recover and spin around quickly due to the extra rudder I have given it.

I have checked and double checked the tail movement, which is very smooth, so I don’t believe it’s mechanical.

The GY401 is set up correctly for the 9254, i.e. pot at 95%, digital switch on and no delay set.

The 9254 appears ok in that it moves smoothly with no play, and as the tail recovers completely I’m guessing the gears seem must be ok

I had this problem the first couple of flights with the heli, then I had about 4 or 5 ok ones, and today the problem returned, starting when I did a flip, at which point I almost lost it, and then when I tried some simple turns.

My best guess is the fault lies with the 401 rather than the 9254 but I would appreciate any thoughts anyone might have before I go buying replacement parts.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Before you rule out the servo why don't you open up the case and physically check out the gears?

You say the POT is at 95% The pot is the total travel of the gyro to servo. You could be binding in the extreme edges. Or- a gear chipped. Like Druss says pop the servo case open and check the gears. Check you tail rod that it is not flopping and or binding. The tail bearings could be sticking in the grips.

Thanks for the input guys, the tail travel is fine with but I never thought about the bearings. I will take a look tomorrow and also check out the servo gears.
