I have several packs that are one season old. They are li-ion packs. THey are hextronic. Some of the packs are "puffy", almost like they are swollen or something. I always charged and conditioned with the proper charger and pack conditioner. They only have about 10 charges cycles through them. They were stored in my cool basement over the winter. Are these packs about to blow, so to speak?

When in doubt, throw it out.

I would probably not use them. I would take them to a LHS and see if anyone there can offer a second opinion.

There are versions/batches of Hextronic lipos that are well documented as puffing no matter what precautions the user took. I think that the seller (hobbycity?) was replacing them under warranty at one time, I believe.

I have a puffed Hextronic 1700 MAH that I got used. I make sure to charge it below 1C in a metal box, and store it there as well, and continue to use it in my Tiger Moth 400. The puffing hasn't gotten any worse, as far as I can tell. It does, however, have reduced capacity, only around 1100 Mah now.

Regards,

Gary
