Looks like a typical stall.

Typical stall.... kept the nose too high and bled off too much speed.

yup stalled it. Supprized that someone with such a nice plane would make such a rookie error. Owell happens to the best of us I guess.

Bummer,

I am guessing it was probably a matter of being so far out the pilot couldn't judge his speed well anymore.. it was so close to the corn it had to be nearly off the field..and who knows how zoomed in the camera was... Its a darn shame though. I always have problems judging the speed of a model flying flat and level at a longer distance. He might have been better off pulling up the landing gear. But sometimes you don't always think of the obvious when that motor sputters to a stop !

4 useless things in aviation
1. Runway behind you
2. Altitude above you
3. Fuel in the fuel jug
and the useless thing that applies here:
4. Airspeed you don't have

He said "push it down"
The instructor saw it coming...
I imagin it was going down wind too ...he over shot
I think he was trying to make it to the corn field for a softer impac.lol
The model looked like it had decent speed didn't it ?
So why would it just droped ?

FlyX,

The P-51 isn't exactly a great glider. He did not have enough airspeed and stalled the plane. One common misunderstanding is that a stall is a product of lost airspeed, it is a product of too much angle of attack. One day go out and do a power on stall up high. If it's not a 3-d type plane, you can hold full up elevator and full throttle and the plane will likely decent fast but will not recover from the stall. When trying that maneuver be prepared for a spin. But it is an eye opening thing to try if you have never done it before.

I don't mean to sound rude or crass, but when are all these warbird pilots (and others) going to take heed of these expensive little physics lessons? There's only one way to stall an airplane, and that's exceeding the critical angle of attack. It doesn't matter how fast it "looked" like it was going, look at the AOA. It was clearly very high.

P.S. Those razor sharp corn stalks would have torn the airplane to shreds anyway.

That's why he said "push it down." way before it stalled.
I think in the niegborhood of trying to regain speed and decreasing the AOA.

That's why a good instructor will tell you to trim the model with a slight down trim when making landing approches..especailly with a brick.
It's easier to flair becuase when release presure from the stick, it's the same as pushing the model down.
Because you're instink is to pull... less pull that is all.

My planes are always nose haevy with a little down trim. The plane in the video was level and almost nose up for a moment prior to the stahl. Bad decision. Keep that nose down and if you can't make the runway, gear up and belly land as smooth as possible. Lessons learned.

At least the plane doesn't look too bad. I'm sure it is rebuildable. Just needs a little TLC.

I had a P51 and did the same thing...lost air and down she went. I have recently got her back together and will test in a few days. I'll post here the pics of the fuselage but did manage to save the stabs and main wing with a minor gash in it.
