Hi
I've just bought a Century 50 Airwolf and could do with a little advise on the build if anybody has got one of these. I have a OS 50 hyper to go in it, which exhaust would be best suited for this? the century 50 scale muffler perhaps or would a normal tuned pipe be better? I happen to have 4 servos that came with my spektrum dx7 ( i assume these will be ok ) but it says you need 5 so i need another for the tail, i'm thinking of a GY401 Gyro+S9254??? Also the web site says 2 servos are needed for the retracts but the manual appears to show 3, which is correct and which servos would be best suited? Hope someone can help me out.
Thanks Gary

Those 821 servos aren't rated for a 50 nitro and I wouldn't reccomend using them on such a project.

Gary, I have a cent. Airwolf with raptor mech./50 hyper eng. First , century has scale exhaust for it USE it. Here's why, I had a stock 50 exhaust pipe and it touched the bottom of the Fuse, very hard to tell, I had bad Vibrations from this. So I switched to the scale 50 pipe ,flies great no vibes any more ! The radio I use is a DX7 works great, Yes there are 3 retract servo's I have Hitec hs 75 bb they seem to work fine ! If you use the S9254 fut. servo remember it is rated for 4.8 volt operation only, it is a good servo for the tail for sure. Hope this helps !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I built last month my first scale airwolf 50 from century too and I'm using the spektrum 821's,401gyro+9254 and work great!Yes you need 3 servos for the landing and a servo reverser or in my case I bought the futaba MSA-10 that helps me set each servo individually and works as a reverser too.I use a dionysus servo rate reducer for landing real movement and use the regular pipe with a smoke deflector to the down side of the scale and it never will touch the fuselage because it has alot of room.(pipe revo 50)Check the pic of the deflector.
What I like from you guys, that has more experience is to find the other type of retractables for the airwolf that are just like the real ones not like a steel wire in spring form!
Vario has them in their scales but they do not sell it individually.I know that maybe is for like a 60 scale or bigger but how much big it could be? maybe with some mods could fit in to the 50.
Then the scale can look so much more real! and this retracts bend just when you touch the floor, cool right?
Here are one pic of my heli(batcopter!) and one the retracts.

Wow, I just can't see risking a helicopter like that with servos that the manufacturer says not to use.

This is scale flying not 3D.But still, I haven't the expertise to make a solid statement. What servos you recomend for scale flying?
I can upgrade it eventually.( we always look to improve for the best right!)
Did you knoe anything about the retracts like the bell 222 in the picture?

Any other servo in that speed and torque range. Hitech hs 635s or 5625s, Futaba 9202 or even 3151s.

Here's the word from the horses mouth
quote:

New Guidelines for DS821 Servo Use
Tuesday, February 20, 2007

The DS821 servo is a powerful, accurate sport digital servo recommended for RC airplane applications up to 1.20-size. For helicopters, the DS821 operates best with 30-size glow models, and up to 50-size electric. Loads and vibration in larger models may cause premature failure of the servo resulting in damage or injury to property and persons.

Important: Do not use liquid thread lock with the DS821 servo!

Do not use any form of liquid thread lock to secure the servo arm screw to the output shaft of the DS821 servo. Chemicals in these liquids react with the polycarbonate gear set causing the plastic to become brittle, fracturing the final output gear.

Thanks for the information people
I have the mechanics flying now, went with the futaba s3152 servos which seem to do the job fine. The setup feels pretty good so it just a question of fine tuning and hopefully getting a gallon of fuel through it before i put it in the fuselage.

Its a good idea to have the bugs worked out of the mechanics before you stick them in there. It makes it very difficult to work on, you're going about it the right way.
