Well, I just had my first real loss. My old PT-40 which I bashed into a more advanced plane, with a nice OS 61 in the front was lost. I had made a bunch of mods to the plane, extending the elevators and rudder. I was "remaidening" my plane tonight, it took off, and it was clear that the new control surfaces were far more than anything I had ever flown, I go the plane trimmed out, and it was flying fine, then doing the circuit, something came off the plane just turning to base leg, the plane started to sink, I was trying to turn it towards me, the elevator was not working, I could not it up, and then she was gone.

I searched for over an hour and a half, no luck, I had to come home with out my bird. I am very sad about it. My family and I are going out tomorrow am to try to find it. I guess this happens to us all at some point, I just hope I can find it and figure our what happened, it could easily have been pilot error, or structural failure, what ever, I have lost a good old plane and hope to fine her tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about the loss. I hope you can figure out what happened. It's nice to be able to learn something from a bad situation.

Good luck with the search ! I always enjoy the hunt (at first )... Hopefully you will find more airplane than pieces. As good as you sound at changing things you might even get it back in the air.

I think I may have gone overboard with the mods. My fault. I think the crash was caused by one of the mods coming off, but I am not sure. I will have to find the wreckage to determine what happened.

Such is life, my whole family is going to do the search this morning. It poured rain last night, so everything will be good and wet perfect!

My son and I looked for a typhoon that we say go down for a solid week and never found it. I know i covered 5miles looking and searching every tree bush and pond within my range. I think the plane dragon got it. This is a mean dragon and although no one I know has actually seen it, it had eaten several planes in the past. I hides in the woods and only comes out when you least expect it to. I have heard of these dragons being in other areas also. So be careful looking. And take a camera so you can get a pic of the dragon if you happen to run across it. You would be rich quick if you could just get a snapshot of it.

Well I have spent a couple of hours out in the bush looking for that plane and have now given up - at least for now. I may take another look next week, but it may be best to wait for the fall and the leaves to fall. I am not sure that after three days of thunder storms it could get any wetter.

Started to build a new 4* 60 this weekend, one wing is almost done, when one goes in another hits the board.

i found my plane by listening for my servos and motor as i wandered in the general direction when my plane flew over the tree line. I was able to recover it by someone finding it after it fell after a rain. everything was still in working order and it flew the next day! your reciever pack has probably died by now but its something to think of in the future. its hard to spot a plane when leaves are hiding it.

Tried it for well over an hour, did not work for me. I have just come to accept the loss, part of the hobby. It will show up some day I am sure.

Its ALWAYS further out than you think ! I usually walk out to where I am sure it couldn't be, and start there ! Taking the radio with you to wiggle the servos is a life saver. walk , wiggle sticks, listen, works greats lots of times. Thankfully I haven't lost anything in awhile..but I usually head out into the cornfields when a friend needs help.

WELL ,
Hope you find it! I lost my very first plane on my first day of flying on the buddy box. ( 20 years ago) Another student flipped his trainer box on and shot mine down. My instructer and a buddy and I looked for it until it got dark but could not quite find it. WE could however hear the motor running for a while! But it ran out of gas before we got close enough and then it was to dark. The next morning at sun up I was out and found it fairly quickly. It had flown through a pair of BIG oaks and landed on the ground bumped a bush and fractured the horizontal stab a little. I had it out to the field that night for more training! I crashed it again over 17 years later and it was so brittle from age it looked like a stick of dynamite was in it!

Yes dear, I did glue my hand to the airplane to keep from dropping it.
