well, i started taking pics AFTER the tail feathers were done, but i wanted to document my first kit build, which, i must say is coming along MUCH easier than i thought. This is one quality kit- everything fit 100% perfect on the plans and no surprises YET! These directions must be carefully and THOROUGHLY read!

Congratulations for jumping into the world of building!
I really hope all goes smoothly and you enjoy the experience. It's great to see you doing a build thread. If you do run into any questions or problems, it's a great way for others to share their experience and to provide help.

Look forward to following another build thread.

Scott

I will be starting my P47 in a few weeks as well. Glad to see the build is going so fast. I really hope to get mine together in under3 months but we will see.

We need some specs on yor build. Engine, retracts, covering/painting, color shceme, etc.

I just got my retracts for mine yesterday

Sides of fuse are now sheeted. I was always concerned with sheeting, i heard horror stories and ppl saying its the worst part of the build, but i disagree. Maybe i was expecting the worst, only having it be easier than i thought.....Maybe i hyped it up too much! Tonite(or sometime this week ) i will be epoxying the tail feathers on. That, I think, will be the hardest part of the build! The tail feathers seemed to take FOREVER! Lots of sanding, shaping, etc., but they came out ok! As for the rest- im still toying on either covering or glassing it. Havent done either yet! lol. The kit came with the "Bonnie" paint scheme, requiring aluminum monocote, but i was thinking more olive drab with invasion stripes!!!(More like D-DAY) I have an O.S 61 FX laying around, but i think i want more authority in the air- i may spring for either the os .75ax 2 stroke or get my first 4 stroke os .91 Surpass. Not sure yet! As for retracts, i heard the century jet retracts are a little more fragile than the robarts- as im still affording what i can at this time...... I will be doing more research on them......I just ordered the scale cockpit kit, may get the dummy radial as well. I may also get the droptanks too, not sure on a lot yet but hell thats what kit buildings all about- add as you go!! I like the "Button Nose" paint scheme, as well as the "Poutin Poot". Gotta have the naked lady, guys! My wife thinks otherwise

Looks like your build is coming along great. I too am building this kit at the moment (slowly) and am enjoying it very much. I am converting mine to electric though, and modifying the gear to be more scale (retracted position and 4" wheels, retractable tailwheel). Hope you find it as much fun as I do - its my first build too.

In case you're interested here is my build thread http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=861095#post9715250

I'll definitely be watching this one - maybe we can share ideas as we go along?

Keep up the great work. I too have a Top Flite kit P-47 coming soon. I'll be looking forward to more of your build.

sure! I had slowed down, just got back from vacation and started work today. UGH! But i will resume building in a day or 2, so keep watching theres more to come!! As for the retract mod, its my first kit so im just going to dilligently follow ALL directions on this one. Theres not a SINGLE part of the directions to skip here, if it tells you to "be careful here" or "pay attention to" they really mean it, dont think you know more than the directions, or it will bite you in the ass. Havent done it yet but i can see where things can go bad fast on this kit if not followed in order! Hope this helps! Youre build is also looking excellent, i will definitely be following it also!

Cory

Hey there, I was just looking at the Fairview Flyers website and saw a link to this build. We're practically neighbors! LOL. I am in Douglassville and looking to attend some of the events at the field this summer. The Jet Jamboree looks awesome.
