So we arrived at a new venue for a bash, cos it had some elevation changes, as opposed to the normal flat place we go... Everything starts well, I get the Bajomber out first and warm her up. Took her up and down a couple of hills and she's running great. Then some gypsy kids turn up who live on the wasteland there, and start watching, but slowly they get more and more confident, and start touching the cars and stuff. So I put the Baja away for a minute and got the FG out just to try the same hill climbs etc, then I catch one of them half inside the trunk of my car, trying to pull out the thunderbolt! That was it, we started packing up and leaving. Shame we won't be running there again. Cars had run ok, no problems up to that point got about 15 mins on the Baja and 10 on the FG. Arrived back at the usual place feeling nice and safe (those kids just make me nervous, there was about 5 of them and their hands were everywhere, on the tools, cars, I just didn't feel relaxed, had to watch them and the car at the same time). Started the Baja up and started tuning the engine (which isn't going very well by the way everyone, its top end is disappointing), and after about 15 minutes, it stops and stalls. I start it, it stalls again. I start it again, and lift the rear wheels, sure enough the clutch is engaged at idle, rear wheels are spinning away. Think I need to shim the clutchbell. End of the day for the baja. So I got the FG out, yeh, that's more like it, speed and big wheels, so I tore around with that for while, then it wouldn't turn right. Stupid plastic multiplex servo horn has stripped. End of the day for the FG. So I got out the thunderbolt, and fitted the X-can to it. It makes a huge difference, the get up is so much better straight away, but the top end still isn't there. Bottom line is that the smartech engine is a bit disappointing, but can be made acceptable with the X-can. Then the other dogbone I hadn't 'padded' fell out, and I couldn't be bothered to fix it in the field, just went home. I'll fix all the cars tomorrow, and we'll go out again on the bank holiday monday, got a bit of vid of the thunderbolt with the X-can, but nothing spectacular, if I don't get anything better on Monday, I'll upload this one.
