So we arrived at a new venue for a bash, cos it had some elevation changes, as opposed to the normal flat place we go...

Everything starts well, I get the Bajomber out first and warm her up. Took her up and down a couple of hills and she's running great. Then some gypsy kids turn up who live on the wasteland there, and start watching, but slowly they get more and more confident, and start touching the cars and stuff. So I put the Baja away for a minute and got the FG out just to try the same hill climbs etc, then I catch one of them half inside the trunk of my car, trying to pull out the thunderbolt!

That was it, we started packing up and leaving. Shame we won't be running there again. Cars had run ok, no problems up to that point got about 15 mins on the Baja and 10 on the FG.

Arrived back at the usual place feeling nice and safe (those kids just make me nervous, there was about 5 of them and their hands were everywhere, on the tools, cars, I just didn't feel relaxed, had to watch them and the car at the same time). Started the Baja up and started tuning the engine (which isn't going very well by the way everyone, its top end is disappointing), and after about 15 minutes, it stops and stalls. I start it, it stalls again. I start it again, and lift the rear wheels, sure enough the clutch is engaged at idle, rear wheels are spinning away. Think I need to shim the clutchbell. End of the day for the baja.

So I got the FG out, yeh, that's more like it, speed and big wheels, so I tore around with that for while, then it wouldn't turn right. Stupid plastic multiplex servo horn has stripped. End of the day for the FG.

So I got out the thunderbolt, and fitted the X-can to it. It makes a huge difference, the get up is so much better straight away, but the top end still isn't there. Bottom line is that the smartech engine is a bit disappointing, but can be made acceptable with the X-can. Then the other dogbone I hadn't 'padded' fell out, and I couldn't be bothered to fix it in the field, just went home.

I'll fix all the cars tomorrow, and we'll go out again on the bank holiday monday, got a bit of vid of the thunderbolt with the X-can, but nothing spectacular, if I don't get anything better on Monday, I'll upload this one.

Sounds like a hard day for sure. Just no way to predict the servo failure.

Jeeze, it seems like stealing is a huge crime in Greece? I guess those kids have a nice taste for things to take. Thanks stinks about you having a bad day. RC is supposed to be fun and relaxing!

Yeh, I should have pointed out, they were unlikely to take a car, but pocket a good pliars or my camera or my phone definitely. But no, crime is virtually non-existent in greece, thank god. A murder in Athens would get a 15 minute slot in the news, it's so rare.

Well thats good there is no crime there. In Massachusetts you can just go to any town around Boston and be robbed. Have your car stolen. Or get shot. Some of the towns in Massachusetts are just not a good place to be. But I am fortunate enough to be in one of the "nicer towns" where crime is basically non exsistant. I would be very sad if I had my RC's stolen.

i know how you feel foxy. when i have days like that, where everything breaks or just doesnt go right, i try to remember back in the beginning when i would plan a hole day of rc'ing with ONE little nitro. ya that was a while ago. but i clearly remember getting out there and the day lasting 5 minutes. i did here that about greece. an ald argintene freind lived in greece for many years and he said the same thing about the lack of crime. im fortunate myself that we have very little crime hear as well. we dont lock our front door and the keys stay in all three of the cars. its an omish town. like horse and buggy omish. our biggest problem is fires and auto accidents.

I prefer longer sessions, but yeh, the FG was fun as always. I finally figured out a place where we run that has just the right angle to make it do sustainable wheelies. Think that's how I stripped the servo horn. Had a couple of runs that were supposed to be wheelies, but turned into backflips. Doh.

As for personal protection, yes, me too. I usually have an air pistol with me. I don't want to kill anyone (its too easy to really badly hurt people with a bat by accident) and this is a good deterrent. It's a C02 8 shot GAMO repeater with a muzzle velocity of 420fps. Couple of rounds from that in the face you won't take another step closer. Never had to use it of course, but feel better to have it around.
