Today at the R/C field I had just gotten my Axe into a stable hover, and as the initial charge of the battery wore off, I needed more right yaw. I made the mistake of going for the trim and I think I jammed the stick over one way and reduced power quite a bit....result: death-spin into the dirt. But as it happens I hit a little clump of desert scrub brush. Anyway, it looked pretty bad....bent tailboom (plus dent from strike), blades at weird angles, one flybar paddle twisted at an odd angle, and the grips were rotated over like 180*. However, upon getting it on a table and removing the canopy, it appeared that there were, in fact, no broken pieces. Furthermore, after rotating/snapping the blade grip assembly back to its correct orientation, rotating the paddle back, and checking the controls, everything seemed to be functioning normally.......imagine my delight when I threw the canopy back on, set the heli on the ground, spooled up, and lifted off normally! Just glad I wasn't in idle-up mode when she hit the dirt.

I do seem to have a little vibration going on, I'm guessing the flybar is off center a little, or the slight ding in the trailing edge of one blade is throwing things off.

But that stupid tail rotor/motor setup is REALLY starting to get on my nerves.....almost cost me another major repair. I'm trying to hold off and just spend money on a nicer heli once I'm ready, but I may go ahead and spend the $200-$300 to convert the Axe to a proper belt (or shaft, if it's possible) setup. Then again, the Falcon 3D is only like $229.........hmmmm.

The belt drive tail conversion is only $98 from http://www.freestyle-hobby.com. I have also read where some have taken the esky Honey Bee King II tail and applied it to the ACP. I am headed for a driven tail myself, still researching my options.

Check your feathering spindle. An impact like you described may have bent it. Evan a slight bend will cause a vibration. No need to replace, just bend it back straight if you can or if the vibration is minimal, you may be able to live with it for a while.

True about having to have a gyro, but if you are planning to move on/ up in the future, the gyro can go with you. I use the futaba 240, but I know alot of other pilots have found less expensive gyros that work. Sorry cant say which ones...

I think the assumption on their part is that you will want to swap motors fro a brushless, which does require a different, separate ESC. How ever I cant see why you cant just use the stock 3 in 1 board for the main motor ESC.

I have a HBK2 tail on my AXE. I had to do a little fabrication work but was well worth the effort. Of all the things you can do to the AXE, I would say to go with the bell hiller mod, and a GY240. You can run it on the stock radio without any modifications. You plug the orange wire from the 3 in 1 to the white wire on the female lead of the 240. Takes about 5 minutes to put a 240 in an AXE. Set the gain just below 25% and adjust from there.

If you do not want to do the fab work, order the belt drive setup from freestyle-hobby. It takes a little cutting of the frame but is pretty easy to drop in. I thought the tail was to big so I went with the HBK2 tail assembly. About 50-60 bucks in parts and a couple of hours to install.

Dru.

Pics of my mod are in this thread HBK2 + AXE = belt driven tail

Telebee gyro will work fine it just a axe, not a expensive helicopter. Telebee works great on my 500 size, just i dubt i can do 3d with that. God knows. I only need a good
gyro if I want to do hardcore 3d. I reather fly scale anyways and not do crazy 3d, real helicopter don't do 3d. LOL
