I am the proud owner of a 90" wing span FOKKER D.VIII that I just traded 3, 1887 Morgan silver dollars, and a heat/massage recliner for. WAH HOOO... What a deal.
Its about 95% done with engine installed. Some friends of mine went to an estate sale near Tampa,Fl. 3 weeks ago and bought it to hang in their shop. After hanging it people kept bumping the landing gear with their heads {low celing}. So we made a trade...
Now, I need some help. its 90 1/2" wing span, outer panels detach. Firewall is 10 1/2" across. Has 7" Dubro wheels, and what looks to be a 23cc or 25cc engine. No cowl, and the tail feathers are FUBAR...
Anyone have plans for the tail feathers that I can beg, borrow or steal? PLEASE!
Will the Balsa USA cowl fit? I will post some pics soon as i can get my cammera back...
This is my first gasser and 1/4 scale and I'm poopin in my Pampers with excitement. SO PLEASE HELP!

Why not inquire of Balsa USA with regards to the size of their cowl? You should be able to build a set of tail feathers from a good 3-view that you enlarge to 1/4 scale. As I recall, the tail of the D-VIII isn't very complex, so it shouldn't be too big a project.

Thats what Im thinking, about the cowl. As for the tail feathers im just gonna tear the covering off and start drawing outlines. Now I got to figure out the engine brand as the coil is not throwing any spark.

If you want your model to look really nice go here www.flygtm.com
Measure the front end and make sure the diameter will work for your cowling. Then while you are ordering that, get a cockpit kit and other goodies like the leather set. These items really dress up your bird and they are all very high quality and well worth it.

I would say that the BUSA cowl would not fit it. The BUSA DVIII is only 82" and is 1/4 scale. I think yours might be a little bit smaller than 1/3 scale, but I dont know.

That is an offbeat size D8 you have , The 1/4 scale is as said 82" span . think a 1/3rd is around 109" . Unless you find out what kit or dwrgs it is , you will have to make your own cowl . Not a big job to make a mould up & then f/glass cloth etc .

You might think of finding an aluminium cook pot the right size, they vary widely, and make your own cowl.

Why don't you use the cowl from the Toni Clarke Pup (300mm dia) and modiffy it to a D-VIII cowl? I did it for my 1/3.5 scale scratch build project. She is waiting for her maidenflight right now.

There is a good idea Teus. Easier than making a cook pot fit. By the way, I am spending the summer just south of you in Gottingen Germany. Have any advice as to what interesting airplane related sights to see while I am here?
