Hey Matdragon,

Check out this thread, Merle has built 3 now using different IR battle systems, he makes it look easy but it is a lot of work!

Here are two pictures of my 2yr old prototype with the latest track upgrade.
In my opinion to date this is the best track setup I have been able to do.
I cannot get the tracks to come off regardless of the kind of driving I do, at least not so far.
For those who have not been following or are new, my 251 uses both front wheel and track steering, and is Tamiya battle compatible.
With the link track addition I think one may be able to get away from the dual gear box arrangement and go with single motor gearbox.
It won't do super tight turns, but normal truck type of turns seem to go very well; tighter turns are accomplished by using both front wheels and tracks together.
anyway enjoy.

bullyhys

bullyhys: obviously panzer 3 tracks, did you have to mod the drive wheel much?

Hi Stuff,

Yeah they are Panzer3 plastic tracks( the metal tracks are not flexable enough, can't make the curve aroune the drive sprocket.)
As for mods I used the same style as the T34 track drive setup.
Here is a picture.

Was tossing the idea of building an M3 GMC Tank Destroyer when the Trumpeter halftrack comes out. Have no idea of the logistics involved, just an idea at this point. Couple years worth of projects in front of that anyway! 9 I think!

when my stug comes together had thought of using the pzIII turret on a pill box of some description with a battle circuit installed and the "kill" commands rigged to a smoker so when it's dead the thing would smoke like mad

If you are considering a static battlefield piece, check out TANKHOBBY.COM

He has has a battlefield circuit that would work, and he has some examples he has built.
