i have been flying for years and fly 1/5 warbirds including a 1/5 corsair. it seems it is windy every day. i had the f4u out the other day wind blowing 20 straight down the runway, no prob right, and took off. during my flight winds gust to 30 and become variable. i used a power on landing approach and landed at 3/4 power quickly chopping power and using rudder to make a decent landing. THAT EVENING I FLEW MY CESNNA 310 AS THE WINDS DROPPED WELL SAME THING HALF WAY thru they pick up and can you sat crosswind.
anyone elese seeing these really shifting gusting wind. i fly in wind all the time but not if its gusty or shifting

It's Al Gore's fault. He started global warming and nothing has been the same since

We have noticed the same thing in southern Kansas......we normally fly in wind but the last 2 years we have seen more wind and rain than usual.

up past the 49th too. Tried flying at a funfly this weekend and it seems that a 15-20mph wind is "light" these days. very gusty too!

Same here in Colorado Springs. The wind just screamed all winter, right up till about 2 weeks ago. Funny, it never was like this in years gone by.

The wind here seems to have returned to normal. At least for the last week, may be speaking too soon. Around 15 to 20 isnt uncommon. But the 25 to 35 we saw before that was just a bit much. Wind gods must be looking for a sacrifice. They should have enough by now.

were seeing the same here in louisiana, so i'm not crazy! i race full size tunnel hull boats and this has been the worst season i've seen in 13 years of racing. just about every race has seen accidents this year all due to un seasonal wind. i spent seven days in the hospital because of it.

Yes, More wind this year, and I think it will get worse as we get closer to the Presidential Election, you know, between Obama, Hiliary and McCain and all their Hot Air ditzing on each other!

Ha Ha, good one. The wind is 1/3 slower than it was.

In all seriousness though, untill the last few weeks the wind has been pretty crazy this year. This the second thread I have seen on this subject this year. What gets me is it seems like it is across the whole country.

Same thing here in Indiana. We normally have some wind and rain in the early Spring but the past two years the wind just seems to linger on and the bad thing is, our wind is always a crosswind. Looks like it's beginning to settle down the past week so I hope it holds. I'm always a little gun shy to take my big planes out on the windy and gusty days so maybe it's over for a while.

I fly in Denver and the weather this year has been the worse. I have been flying since 1993 and this winter I got to fly less then any other year because of the weather. I fly every thing from electric to turbines and damaged two planes in the last few months because of 90deg wind shift just as I touched down on landing. I don’t mean 5 to 10 but more like 15 to 25 MPH turning 90deg in a second. George

Same here in Wisconsin. Whats up with this weather? Constanty windy and I mean very windy every frikin' day. Alot of nasty T- storms, tornadoes, heavy rains and flooding. Not a good season for flying so far.
