I have a 27% Extra 300s and I have a G45 in it but was thinking about putting a electric ignition motor in it and have herd yes and no about going with a DA engine or a 3W. I've herd more about DA's then 3W's but I don't know I'm just getting started in gas engines and don't know.

I have both a DA50 and a 3w55......The 3w is harder to tune than the DA.....but I think the 3W has more power. DA has the better customer service.

Both are good engines

Convert your 45 to EI via Ralph at RCIGNITIONS. DA and 3W are both excellent choices, but why not save some money and get some great life out of your 45 since you are just getting started? EI and a good exhaust system will go a very long ways with the 45, and narrow the 'worth it' margin when contemplating the purchase of a new engine.

For this plane, either engine is overpowered and will not even need a pipe to get great performance.

DA engines are fantastic, still good price level, as they are made in the US. Very good customer service and can be found used for $500.

If you take the DL-50, you will get similar performance at a price closer to $300.

Check the weights. DA is built light. The 3W is built strong but heavy. In your 27% plane the flying will suffer a bunch from 3W's weight. But put it in a 88" span newer type 50cc plane and it will shine big time. Better to ask which "one" you should get first. If you go 3W get the rear carb. Learning to do engine mounting around a rear carb isn't that hard compared to having to chop a cowl up to fit around the carb on a side intake engine.

www.rcignitions.com however it is not kept up to date, and is not NEAR as user friendly as Ralph is himself. You really want to just get him on the phone! He is a good man to do business with.

His address and phone number were provided above.

I heard that 3w engines are lighter. At least that their twin cylinders are.

If you want to go to the field and fly and have fun buy a DA. If you enjoy going to the field and working on your motor trying to get it run correctly, buy a 3W.

....some among us still insist on advertizing how little they know about the quality engines available to us in our hobby.

I've seen just as many problems at the field with da as 3w. Da has the edge in service and 3w usually has the edge in power. If you have never run a gas engine and do not know anything about gas engines, or do not know anyone to help you with gas engines I would buy a Da.
