Definately THE BEST VIDEO of an R/C Corsair that I have ever seen. Great choice on engine, and great, scale type flying. Now, if you could just slow those retracts down a little,.......

Hi Everyone. I just got my Corsair and it looks very good. After reading this thread tho, I have a severe headache !  It's about the FLAPS! Is there a final "fix" that is agreed will work for these? For instance , I don't see any kind of tube for the wires to slide in- there is just a hole in the balsa ! It doesn't say if one side of the wire needs to be epoxied . The drawing also doesn't show if the bend needs to be curved like the flaps, or a sharp bend. Help Please!!

I'll be using a Saito 170. The kit gear looks solid . I'm looking forward to getting it in the air.

I appreciate any advice!

Larry Sutherland

What did you use for the antennas and how did you attach them.

There should be a plastic sleeve in the flaps to take the wire. I used trial and error to get the bend right so the action was smooth, once set up it works fie.

Thanks for the comments on the video. I decided not to slow the retracts down as the air brakes on the legs work very well and i wanted to be sure they locked. To much forward speed when you lower the retracts can stop them from locking, so I sacrificed scale for security.

I understand completely, and good choice of words.
Altho there are many who are determined to keep their warbirds true to scale at all costs, I too believe in 'sacrifices' to make the landing gear more 'real world' functional and reliable. I've seen too many Corsairs have a great flight, only to encounter a landing gear mishap when landing. Altho it can be argued that such landings are somewhat scale, the plane is usually done flying for the day.
After all, some of us build these to FLY, not to stand around and stare at all day. And yours looks and sounds GREAT in the air.

I am still building but so far I have not been terribly impressed with the manual or some of the construction of the plane. First problem was a wing that did not match with the center piece and after much tinkering to try to get it to match I was afraid of weaking the wing too much and stopped. I now have about a 1/16 inch mismatch on one side of the wing assembly. The next problem has been the poor paint job and paint coming off of the plane parts.

A pretty expensive item to be having these types of issues.

I'm still putting mine together and I start on the flaps this Friday with a friend of mine. I have been working on mine for about 3 weeks it has been a nightmare the manual leaves allot to your interpretation. I just hope I can get this thing to fly.

I agree with you 110%[>:]

I sold the CMP Corsair with the intention of getting this one. However, after reading this thread i decided against it thus I will not have a Corsair ... more trouble than it's worth

KMP is on a loosing path, I have their Spitfire and the late version(s) are coming apart at their seams! Lack of quality control & higher prices than most ARFs is NOT a good marketing strategy if you ask me!

We are applying some aircraft resin to the inside of the center wing section and fuse to try and keep this thing together. I sent the first corsair back because it had the kmp retracts on it and I bought the sierra giant retracts

I also ordered the sierra retracts and alloy wheels.

I will let you know what I think about the aircraft when I receive it.

It looks like KMP has listen to us and stepped up.

Major improvements radiator fixed, outer wing panels fit gull.

Paint is solid all glue and glass is superb.

I will post more photos tonight!

The gap in the wheel wells under the blocks would make me a little nervous still. I would add another or replace the one thats there so that you have complete contact on both surfaces with the block. The paint and detail is awesome though. Now if they would figure out an easier way to do the flaps. lol Nice looking plane, I still want to add one to my collection. Will need to work a little more overtime so the wife don't miss the money, or notice it.

After stressing about the flaps, I finally took idea's from a bunch of people and came up with a fix that works for me. I got some .050 solid carbon rod and used that to replace the wire joiner. BTW, it says nothing about the tube in the flaps but I found them anyway! The rod bends naturally as the flaps go down ,slides well ,and it's very solid . Blowback should not be a problem. I also used the Robart large hinges at a 45 degree angle instead of the kit ones.Looking forward to getting it in the air!Larry Sutherland

Johnny,
I am glad that KMP decided to fix those problems but what about the rest of us who bought from them and have defective models? Interestingly I send Mr. Kondor an email and never heard a word back.

I was surprised when I received the updated kit Tomas told me it would be the same as all the others.
It looks like ESM did the update and did not tell KMP or YT International about it.

Larry Sutherland emailed these photos of his .050 solid carbon rod flap setup.
And with his permission I am posting these.

Great work Larry!

It looks like that to me.
Its larrysutherland work I have not tried it yet.

I think the slotting would be a good also probably less flex overall.

No problem at all with sliding and it's very solid-carbon fibre does not move much! BTW, in talking with Andrew Kondor , he mentioned using a dry graphite on the metal joiners if that is what you are using.Larry

Powder graphite is some good stuff, most local hardware stores carry it. I use it on almost everything.

Hi all

Is anyone using the pull-pull elevator setup?

It scares me.

Thanks
