Morning Everyone,

I have purchased this kit, and intend on bashing it a little. I have built warbirds several times prior. However my goal, (Being as I enjoy building even more than flying.) is to dig in, and build my first finely detailed scale model. So, with that in mind, I realize that weight will become a major issue. I am aware that models built this way, generally tend to be on the heavier side. That said, how heavy is too heavy? Please give me your input. I would love any answers or input you have on the following questions. Or any others I _haven't_ listed. In this area, I can see where wing loading could VERY quickly get out of control.

1- What is your airplane's weight?
2- What is the wing's approximate percentage of the overall aircraft's gross weight?
3- What engine are you using?
4- What are your plane's flight characteristics?
5- What did you use for glassing? (Poly, Epoxy, Vinyl, Polyester?)
6- What is your opinion on a target for maximum allowable weight, without serious detrimental flight characteristics. (For a scale aircraft with the above listed agenda.)

Thank you all,

Chris

I think there are a few others out here that will answer your questions better thanI can, as they have done a lot of bashing to this kit. But I will give you my info to add to the mix. I am on my second P40 from yellow.
one was 26, the other 26.5 pounds
wing weight was about 1/3, (a guess) thats Gear too
I have a fuji 64 in the nose
take offs have a bit of yaw, rudder rudder rudder, and to me it flies heavy. But I have flown mostly light and smaller planes. By saying heavy, I mean its sort of like a warbird should feel, smooth and not jumpy. And I try to keep the landing speed up a bit.
I did not glass either of them. Just monokote.
I guess the max weight is a question I could not really answer. I like the way mine flies, but I have never had an over weight plane, so I have nothing to compare it too. sorry if this is not much help. But there are a few threads that show great detail of the mods that they are doing. I think you have a great kit to start with. Keep us posted with the build. Jeff

Thanks JeffEE,

This actually does help. I had assumed that the wing would be somewhere around 1/3 the weight of the plane. Any other takers? I could really use a good mix to establish some benchmarks. I will be weighing everything with a gram scale, in attempt to make sure I keep my "enthusiasm" in check.

Regards,

Chris
